Chapter 33 - Volume 9: Two Wills, One Destiny. Chapter 3: The Mirror on the Beach

The coast of Kyoshi stretched out before the ship like a still-open wound.

The beach was still marked by black ashes; the faint smoke from charred trunks rose like gray threads toward a cloudy sky. Despite the disaster, the air had a salty, humid smell that heralded the near end of the emotional storm that had ravaged the island.

On the shore, Suki and the rest of the warriors were already waiting.

Ren Yang was at the front of the group, his arms crossed, his posture seemingly relaxed… though anyone who knew him closely would see the barely perceptible stiffness in his shoulders. His dark eyes gleamed under the sun, attentive, calculating, serene.

But then the ship stopped.

And Ren Yang exhaled through his nose, his expression changing slightly—as if a piece of the puzzle that only he understood had clicked into place.

The gangplank descended.

First, a soldier disembarked.

Then Suri.

Then Keiko.

Then the rest of Azula's team.

And finally…

Azula descended.

But what truly shattered the quiet of the atmosphere was him.

Ren Yin appeared behind the princess, walking with the same supernatural calm as an elegant shadow gliding over water. His fair skin contrasted with the gray sky; his black hair fell straight, perfectly arranged; and his amber eyes seemed to look at the world as if he had already read it completely.

As he descended the gangplank, Ren Yin raised his gaze.

And he met Ren Yang's directly.

The silence tensed.

As if the air itself had realized that two identical and opposing wills were looking each other in the face.

Two souls in one split body.

Two complete identities.

And the same origin reflected in two different expressions.

Ren Yang smiled first—a crooked, carefree, almost mischievous smile.

"So you've finally arrived," he said, tilting his head slightly as if evaluating a mirror that had decided to walk on its own.

Ren Yin didn't smile.

He just stopped at the end of the gangplank, his posture pristine, impeccable, like a living porcelain figure.

"I have arrived," he replied softly. "On time, as always."

The Kyoshi Warriors were petrified.

Hana muttered something like "what…?", her eyes wide.

Kiroru and Sayuri exchanged incredulous looks.

Ena brought a hand to her chest.

Kaede clenched her jaw, instinctively wondering if this was an illusion or a spiritual trick.

And Suki…

Suki took an unconscious step forward.

Her breath stopped.

Ren Yin was Ren, but he wasn't Ren.

He was pure beauty at first glance, but he was also coldness and elegance.

Every line of his face had a nobler, more refined, softer… air.

At the same time, there was something deeply unsettling about his presence.

A quiet, serene, dangerous aura.

Azula saw the impact Ren Yin was having on all of them. She watched with silent pride.

Ren Yang, for his part, shifted his gaze to the leader of the warriors.

"Don't be so surprised, Suki," he said with a half-smile that contained a certain glint of satisfaction. "In the end, I'm just… complicated."*

Suki blinked, swallowing.

"No… this is…" she looked at Ren Yin, then at Ren Yang. "There are two…"

"Two parts," Ren Yin corrected, his tone so soft it made the sea breeze seem to stop to listen. "Two forms. Two roles."*

Azula took a step forward, crossing her arms, her chin held high.

"And both serve my purposes," she said with cold pride. "Don't waste time wondering how or why. Just get used to the fact that, from today on, he comes in pairs."*

The warriors tensed.

Ren Yang raised a hand, casual, as if to reassure them.

"It's not dangerous," he said, casual, amused. "Well… no more than usual."*

Ren Yin added, without changing his tone:

"As long as they don't betray us… of course."

That contrast—lightness and perfect threat—made the warriors swallow in unison.

Suki, however, took a firm step toward Ren Yin.

He looked at her with attention, without judgment, without obvious emotion.

His gaze was a silent caress that analyzed without permission.

Suki felt a shiver run down her spine, but she didn't retreat.

"If you are Ren… or part of him," she said, her voice clear, "then you are welcome here. As long as you come as an ally."*

Ren Yin bowed his head, elegant.

"I did not come as an enemy."

"And him?" Suki asked, looking at Ren Yang.

Ren Yang's smile widened.

"Me neither.

Not today."

Azula intervened, advancing until she stood between the two Rens.

"We are here to help. That is the only thing you need to understand."

Her posture was imperial.

Her presence, overwhelming.

Her sharp beauty, contrasting with Ren Yin's cold serenity and Ren Yang's vibrant magnetism.

Suki took a deep breath and nodded slowly.

Ena, finally, was the first to bow her head in a sign of acceptance.

"Well… then… welcome to Kyoshi Island."

"Welcome."

"Them."

Two Rens.

One single mystery.

And an alliance that would never be normal.

Ren Yin walked slowly toward Ren Yang.

Both stood face to face.

Two souls.

Two bodies.

One single intention.

Ren Yang raised his hand.

Ren Yin held it.

A minimal gesture.

A silent pact.

"Our next move," Ren Yin said in a low voice, "begins now."*

Ren Yang replied, smiling sideways:

"Then let's play."

Both turned at the same time, like perfect reflections, looking at Azula, at Suki, and at a half-destroyed island.

And with that, the true campaign in Kyoshi began.
