*Peter's POV*
"It is going to make us draw the attention of the gatekeeper while it sneaks in."
Those words were spoken by Emily, but I couldn't stop myself from frowning my brow.
"What a sneaky bastard! So, what now?" I breathed out and asked.
"We should proceed with the plan and find a way for the Kraken to be caught," she stared at the screen and answered.
It has been 30 minutes now, but we couldn't brainstorm any useful ideas.
'This is really stressful, but no matter what I must remain calm.'
"Shouldn't we tell the others ?"
I glanced to my side, staring at the others, noticing each one of them was doing something not very important.
"Not necessary, because if we tell them, it will lead to more tension and affect their decisions."
She was calm and composed as she said that, and finally someone dispersed the silence.
"Everyone prepare because once we get to the location our battle just begins," Quinn's voice echoed throughout the room displaying bravery, pride...and seriousness.
The battle ahead of us will be daunting and dangerous like how life on Earth is...
Earth was a planet filled with an abundant of life and resources, but as time passed, things became different.
With the advancement in technology, humans began polluting the environment and with technology comes power. Different countries were contending for power and the cost of that power was the death of billions of people and the destruction of natural ecosystems.
Within the first few months, millions died, and in the following months, the death count began to multiply. The war lasted for 6 months and stopped due to a truce between the governments.
The government created an alliance, calling it 'The Overseer'. It was tasked with the sole purpose of governing the Earth. One of the advantages and also a disadvantage of the war was that the Earth's landmass was reduced by 30 percent and the human population was reduced to one-fifth of its initial population.
It led to the concentration of the population in mostly one place, North America. This made governing the people easier.
Even life after the war wasn't easy; there was shortage of food and pandemics all over the place. It led to malnutrition and a further decline in the population. It took about 2 years to settle everything.
But life never reverted back to how it was before the war. The world structure was based on power. If one doesn't have power, you are nothing. Those who had power were entitled to quality education, health care, shelter, and occupation.
For those who didn't, life was like hell. They struggled to provide basic needs. And people in this category were regarded as pieces of trash, worthless living beings.
They were discriminated against, assaulted and killed because of their status in society. If those with power were asked, they would simply say they were irritated by them.
In public, they were treated nicely, but privately they were put in their place.
'It has been 90 years since the battle, why can't I stop thinking about it ? Hah, thinking about everything is tasking,' I groaned as I sighed.
The submarine moved through the water at a constant acceleration as it approached a shady gigantic structure. The structure was shrouded in shadow preventing people from seeing the appearance and was enclosed by a dome. At the front of the dome stood a creature.
"Don't tell me it's the..."
The monster had six long, serpentine necks, each with three rows of sharp teeth and six dog-like heads growing out of her waist. It had the upper body of a woman, sometimes beautiful, sometimes monstrous, and it had a lower body of a serpent-like tail, which coiled around the rocks.
Each of those serpentine necks had a sinister smile that could frighten anyone who sees them.
"...Fearsome sea monster known as Scylla."
The story of Scylla came from ancient Greek mythology, and it's one about betrayal, obsession and being trapped in a body you didn't choose.
The story began when the sea god, Glaucus, didn't just admire Scylla...he became obsessed with her. He followed her, watched her and constantly tried to win her over.
But Scylla feared him. Not because he was cruel, but because he wasn't fully human anymore.
His advances were rejected several times. After being rejected, he was desperate and went to a sorceress called Circe for help.
Instead of helping, Circe driven by her own desire decided:
"If I can't have him... no one will."
She didn't attack Glaucus, but targeted Scylla. She poisoned the water Scylla loved most-her safe place.
When Scylla stepped into the water, the change wasn't instant and painless...her body began to wrap and she felt something moving beneath her skin, heads-creatures began to grow from her.
Worst of all, she was still conscious, still herself, but, the new parts of her.... weren't. The snapping, hungry heads around her waist had minds of their own. They craved flesh, dragging her towards a life of violence.
At first, it was said she isolated herself from everything she once loved, but driven by hunger, she attacked countless ships. Along with Charybdis, another horror of the sea, together, they turned the sea into a place where: no routes were safe and every choice led to loss.
"She wasn't originally like this; she was a beautiful sea nymph, graceful and admired by all. At last, the world turned her like this."
