The walk back toward the school entrance felt strangely calm, the morning air cool against my skin while Taehyung walked beside me with that quiet confidence he carried so naturally. He didn't hover, didn't crowd me, but his presence was solid — steady enough that I felt grounded just by having him there. Students were already gathering near the gates, the usual chatter filling the air, but everything felt muted compared to the warmth of the morning we'd just shared.
As we approached the entrance, Eun‑ji spotted us instantly. Her eyes widened, her jaw dropped, and she practically sprinted across the courtyard.
"HWANG Y/N!" she shrieked, skidding to a stop in front of us she blinked, then slowly turned her gaze to Taehyung, who simply raised an eyebrow, calm and unbothered. Eun‑ji's expression melted into a grin so wide it looked painful.
"Oh my god," she whispered dramatically. "You two look like a couple in a drama."
I groaned. "We're not—"
"Save it," she said, waving me off. "Bathroom. Now."
She grabbed my wrist and dragged me toward the building. I glanced back at Taehyung, who gave me a small nod a soft smile while just quietly watching me get dragged away something warm fluttered in my chest Inside the bathroom, Eun‑ji shut the door behind us and immediately spun around.
"Talk," she demanded. "Everything Now did y'all kiss? sleep together?" she bombarded me with questions
I sighed, leaning against the sink. "He slept over."
Her eyes nearly popped out of her skull. "HE WHAT—"
"Not like that," I hissed, slapping my hand over her mouth. "He just... needed somewhere safe. He was exhausted. And after everything that happened yesterday, I didn't want him going home alone."
Eun‑ji's expression softened instantly. "So he stayed on the couch?"
I hesitated. She gasped. "Y/N."
"He asked me to stay with him until he fell asleep," I said quietly. "And then he asked if I could stay the whole night. Nothing happened. We just... slept."
Eun‑ji stared at me for a long moment, then squealed into her hands.
"This is insane. This is like... chapter twelve of a romance novel." I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks warmed.
"It wasn't like that. He just needed someone."
"And he chose you," she said, her voice suddenly gentle. "That means something."
I didn't answer, because I didn't know how to. Instead, I splashed water on my face, trying to calm the fluttering in my chest when we stepped out of the bathroom, the hallway was quieter too quiet. The kind of quiet that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Taehyung was standing near the lockers, hands in his pockets, posture relaxed but alert. He looked like he was waiting for us, eyes flicking toward me the second I stepped out. But before I could reach him, someone else stepped into view.
Jungkook.
He walked toward us with slow, deliberate steps, his expression unreadable. Not smirking. Not mocking. Just... cold. Focused. His eyes locked onto Taehyung first, then flicked briefly to me before returning to him.
Taehyung didn't move didn't flinch he just straightened slightly, shoulders squared, gaze steady and unshaken he was ready Jungkook stopped a few feet away, his jaw ticking once before he spoke.
"Did you tell her?" he asked, voice low the words weren't directed at me
They were aimed straight at Taehyung.
The air tightened instantly Taehyung's expression didn't change. He didn't look guilty or nervous. He didn't look away. He just held Jungkook's stare with a calm, controlled intensity that made something in my chest tighten.
"That's none of your business, its mine weather I decided to tell her or not" Taehyung said, voice smooth and steady.
Jungkook's eyes narrowed. "It is if you're dragging her into this."
"I'm not dragging her anywhere" Taehyung replied. "She's here because she wants to be."
Jungkook scoffed, but there was something else in his eyes something sharp, something almost like frustration. "You think that makes it better?"
Taehyung stepped forward just slightly, not threatening, but firm. "its your fault and I'm not hiding anything from her. Not anymore." My breath caught
Jungkook's gaze flicked to me again, lingering for a moment searching for something But I didn't look away I stood my ground
His jaw clenched.
"So you did tell her," he said quietly Taehyung didn't answer with words he didn't need to the silence between them was thick and dangerous a silent conversation only the two of them understood.
Eun‑ji grabbed my arm and whispered "What is happening right now?"
I didn't answer.
Because Taehyung finally spoke again, voice low and unwavering.
"She knows enough," he said. "And that's all she needs to know." with that he grabbed my arm and walked away leading me to our next class leaving Jungkook standing there shocked Eun-ji followed behind shortly after.
Class didn't feel like class after that. The air was too thick, too charged, like the tension from the hallway had followed us inside and settled over every desk. Even Mrs. Park seemed to sense something was off glancing between Taehyung and Jungkook more than once as she wrote on the board. Eun‑ji kept leaning over to whisper commentary under her breath, but even she was quieter than usual, her eyes flicking nervously toward the back of the room where Jungkook sat tapping his pencil against the desk in slow, deliberate beats.
Taehyung sat beside me, calm as ever, flipping through his notes like nothing had happened. But I could feel it the awareness in the way he sat, the subtle tension in his shoulders, the way his eyes drifted toward Jungkook every so often, not in fear but in calculation. He wasn't rattled. He wasn't intimidated. He was watching
When the bell finally rang, the room erupted into noise, students rushed out Eun‑ji grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder leaned in on my desk
"I'm walking with you," she declared. "I'm not leaving you alone with those two testosterone bombs." I snorted but before I could respond Taehyung stood and looked at me.
"I'll walk you," he said simply.
Eun‑ji raised a brow. "And I'll walk behind you. At a safe distance. Like a bodyguard. Or a witness."
Taehyung actually cracked a small smile at that but it faded the moment Jungkook stood up from his desk he didn't rush he just walked toward us with slow controlled steps students parted around him instinctively out of fear Taehyung stepped closer to me positioning himself in a way that made it clear he wasn't letting Jungkook get too close.
Jungkook stopped a few feet away, his eyes locked on Taehyung.
"You didn't answer my question," he said quietly. "Did you tell her everything?"
Taehyung didn't blink. "I told her what she needed to know."
"That's not what I asked." he said gritting his teeth slightly
"And that's all you're getting," Taehyung replied, voice steady.
Jungkook's gaze flicked to me, sharp and searching. "So you don't know."
Taehyung's jaw tightened. "Jungkook." But Jungkook ignored him.
His eyes stayed on me dark and intense like he was trying to read every thought in my head "You really trust him?" he asked.
Eun‑ji stepped forward before I could speak. "Back off, Jeon. She doesn't owe you anything." Jungkook didn't even look at her his attention stayed on me waiting.
I swallowed, forcing myself not to look away. "I trust him, more than I could ever trust you" I said then something flickered in Jungkook's eyes something like disappointment or maybe frustration It was hard to tell with him he exhaled slowly, then looked at Taehyung again.
"You're playing a dangerous game," he said. "Both of you."
Taehyung didn't move. "well I'm done playing."
Jungkook's expression hardened. "Then you're going to get her hurt."
Taehyung stepped forward, his voice low and controlled. "The only person who's ever hurt her is you."
Jungkook's jaw clenched, but he didn't deny it. He didn't smirk. He didn't throw back a sarcastic comment. He just stared at Taehyung, something conflicted flickering in his eyes.
Then he said, quietly, "You think you can protect her from what's coming?"
Taehyung didn't hesitate. "Yes."
Jungkook let out a breath and shook his head slightly.
"You have no idea what you're getting into," he said. "Neither of you do."
Taehyung's voice was steady. "Then tell us."
Jungkook's eyes darkened. "I can't."
"Won't," Taehyung corrected Jungkook didn't argue.
He just stepped back, hands sliding into his pockets, his expression unreadable Jungkook held his stare for a long moment a silent battle neither of them backed down from before finally turning and walking away, disappearing around the corner without another word.
The moment he was gone, Eun‑ji let out a shaky breath.
"Okay," she said. "I'm officially terrified. And also... weirdly impressed."
I turned to Taehyung. "Are you okay?"
He nodded once. "I'm fine."
But his eyes stayed on the hallway where Jungkook had disappeared, sharp and calculating, like he was already preparing for whatever came next then he looked at me and his expression softened instantly he held my hand softly
"You don't have to worry," he said quietly. "I'm not going anywhere." Something warm spread through my chest.
Eun‑ji groaned dramatically. "I swear, if you two start making heart eyes again, I'm transferring schools." I shoved her lightly, laughing despite the tension Taehyung's lips curved into a small smile the kind that made my stomach flip and he nodded toward the exit "Come on," he said. "Let's get to our next class." And as we walked together, the hallway buzzing around us, I realized something unsettling and undeniable
Whatever was happening between Taehyung and Jungkook...
Whatever history they shared...
Whatever danger was creeping closer...
I was already in the middle of it.
And neither of them was going to let me walk away.
