Chapter 92 - 92: Screaming Starvation

In a silent night, where the wind was not blowing and no animal was wandering around, and the atmosphere was heavy and somber, Cankt brought Cassius to the deepest dungeons of the castle.

Brought there to rot in chains around wood and metal, a bit of oxidized steel. Cassius waited for further orders.

"Rules are simple, you stay here until I feed you your friends. If you leave, you will automatically die."

"I should warn you. They have numerous lives, given by the unstable witch Anaïs. She gave them those lives to ensure their victory against Helios."

"How many?"

"Millions."

"Then you won't have to starve."

Cankt reached the outside, stumbling upon Ismael and the Bringer, as they were closely followed by everyone else.

Amphelise was immediately recognized by Cankt as a Cardinal, and selected as a target right at that moment.

"Something...red and black..."

Amphelise, captivated by her sudden incomprehensible vision, could not pick up on what was going on, the blood of her body purging out.

"She was so far away. I didn't see anything. Well, I'll come back."

"It's Anaïs, right? Don't feel too comfortable, the expansion of life through mutliple given lives is temporary. Always temporary."

"What dl you mean?"

"I mean if I kill her, your little circle thing won't be active anymore. You depend on her. And she's weaker than me. So when you wake up, far away from this place, don't ever think of fighting me again. Give up, demon."

Amphelise lost consciousness and woke up at the Structure. This time she ran up the stairs and actually took Cankt's advice, giving up immediately. On the bed upstairs, she was reflecting on her life and past, recent events. Nothing made much sense, but deep down she knew. Only one thing came to mind.

"I'm fucking useless."

And this thought lingered a moment, until another broke her down.

"I'll die accomplishing nothing, with nobody to hold. Perseus won. God won. My own nature went against Him. I'm dying for nothing and for no one. What if I could change my nature? Completely reject my nature of Cardinal and leave all this behind..."

Amphelise, for the time to come, mastered the art of meditation, creating a void, a large emptiness inside of her soul. The white emptiness kept its' nature because she was not feeding it anything at all. No emotion, no logic, no presemptuous accord. Not a thought. It grew larger until the white space connected with her Sin.

"Viscountess of Slavery. This is not who I am."

The Cardinal had made a collision with who she was, and breaking forth her pride and ego would result in moving on from her previous mindset.

"I do not own slaves. I am the slave. Of my emotions, needs and desires. I will fast off my addictions and repent before Him."

The white space grew in size and power. The soul of an individual is an actual real "place", located in between the roots of the nature of a person and their physical realm. Amphelise's soul was a black and white havoc in tandem, one side involved in her direct downfall, another persecuting it. The latter responds to each verbal and mental assession until the black part of the individual soul does not send any signal anymore.

As such, the person falls into a deep slumber. The agony that the Sin invokes generally stomps the rationalization that they try to perform to stress themselves down.

But Amphelise knew better. Centuries of experience and this sort of thing does not go unnoticed. The white space was her, she had to become the white space.

Amphelise had become the white space.

At the castle, Cankt went to see her prisoner, Cassius locked up and weak, unable to break the gates.

"Surely I'll be lent strength by whatever force out there."

"No you won't. I'll feed you the Cardinals I'll slaughter. Will use them to keep you alive. Here's a few already."

"But why? Can't you just kill me?"

"My mission states to kill the Cardinals at Perseus, but it doesn't say in which manner or how long I can keep one of you alive. Ashnael knows this well, doesn't he? That you can kill people in more ways than just with a murder."

"And yet, you act like us. Sent by God to act like a Sin."

"This is how bad your nature is."

"I didn't choose to be a Cardinal. You, on the other hand, chose to commit heinous acts."

"That's true. You're entirely right on that one. But I'll take my own word for it, I know I can conjure you all from reality and go back home."

"How many of you?"

"Five others await to come and ravage the Cardinals. But so far, God has only sent me, knowing I'm efficient enough for the mission."

"Again, they all have millions of lives. They'll eventually win or leave."

"You are unaware, so I'll tell you. I am completely immortal. You could try anything, and nothing would work against me. Know also, I am the least mentally unstable of the group. Given the order, any other member of the Lunatics would decimate you and your Cardinal friends in under a minute."

"I highly doubt that."

"Oh? Then we shall give it a try. I'll allow one of them to come here and act as they wish."

Cankt rose her head to the ceiling, obviously in a sense that she was looking at the sky and even further above.

"Konstantin. Partake in my quest."

Up above, where the stars shine, a man, without even a word, turned his head to the Dragon God. In a gaze only, this one responded positively. He immediately landed in a terrifying noise that engulfed Perseus, alerting the residents of the newcoming threat.

Without losing any time by talking to himself, the man with long red hair brushed in the back dashed to the Structure, now stripped from any outside barrier. He sensed Amphelise's presence and rushed the stairs to her location.

There he found her on the bed, talking to herself. But in the end, did not kill her.

For she was not a Cardinal any longer.
