Chapter 222 - Chapter 21: Skender's Monster Show

Regarding Mori Tsukisa's question, the black cat had its own interpretation.

"It's clearly called the Wizarding World, yet they're called wizards?" Bastet tucked her paws in, her words not particularly pleasant to hear. "This only proves there are still some sober people among the wizards."

In the black cat's view, the wizards of this World, even the top-tier ones, could not be called people who manipulate spells. Humans who were chosen and activated through bloodlines were, at most, merely users of witchcraft.

They were carriers of energy, rather than partners or even masters of it. If this group of people showed some initiative and worked hard for a few hundred years, they might barely be called sorcerers.

"A few hundred years? Isn't the era of no magic coming?"

"That's directed at gods." The black cat watched the passing crowds. "For us, it's like being stranded; for these wizards, they can still swim freely."

Although they were discussing wizards, Mori Tsukisa felt that Bastet's words were somehow applicable to herself as well.

"Hmph, you are certainly a 'mage', just... not quite the same as a normal one. Self-deprecation is a foolish act." The black cat seemed to see what Mori Tsukisa was thinking and tilted its head. "Planeswalker isn't a profession; it's a type of being. Do you know how hard it is to ignite a spark? To compare yourself with wizards—if you are a gemstone, they aren't even as good as dung!"

"Oh, the wizards of this World?"

"Their Ability to manipulate and analyze spells isn't as good as those guys who play with the arcane; the succession and legendary nature of their bloodlines aren't as good as a one-in-a-billion Planeswalker."

The black cat grumbled as it spoke. Suddenly, it looked up curiously. "Have you ever tried to create magic?"

Create magic?

Mori Tsukisa nodded truthfully.

She had indeed tried, but she gave up in the end: a Planeswalker could create blank cards to seal the spells, items, creature Attendants, and land cards encountered during their travels.

—They... could naturally create their own spells too.

—However, it came at the cost of permanently losing 'land'.

—The more powerful and terrifying the created magic, the more 'land' would be destroyed and shattered accordingly.

The girl, who didn't have many land cards in her pocket to begin with, would never do such a thing.

"It seems you understand." The black cat seemed relieved and nodded. "You're practically an infant Planeswalker. The ones who truly need to create magic are the old-timers; it's too early for you."

"After traveling through countless Worlds, when spells and Attendants tend toward saturation, only then will a Planeswalker with a large amount of 'land' begin to create magic—at that time, they can clearly see their own shortcomings."

"Don't be in a hurry, young Planeswalker."

Mori Tsukisa wasn't in a hurry. She simply enjoyed traveling, slacking off, and seeing different Worlds. However, that sentence... "Are you worried about me?" The girl curled her lips and stared directly at the awkward-looking black cat.

"I! AM! NOT!" The black cat instantly turned into a sea urchin shape again, its back arched high. "I'm just simply popularizing some knowledge for an ignorant person like you!"

"Popularizing!"

"Knowledge!"

"Oh." Mori Tsukisa's smiling response didn't make Bastet feel any better. It kept muttering words like 'idiot' and 'doesn't understand anything,' not realizing that many Planeswalkers actually groped their way through without any guidance.

—If Mori Tsukisa had the ability to possess a god, she would be able to see a cute, milky-white kitten in Bastet's vision.

—Even though this kitten frequently made her angry, made her bite her nails, and made her turn into a sea urchin.

"Sigh." The cat clamored for a long time. "Actually, it doesn't matter whether you're a Planeswalker or not..."

In Bastet's view, Mori Tsukisa's body was a blend of the flesh and characteristics of countless high-level beings, some of which even it couldn't clearly identify—those legendary abilities and concepts would eventually awaken one after another during the girl's future travels.

So, even if she were a pile of mud... she would be the most noble pile of mud.

"Mud? Are you praising me?"

"Of course! I rarely praise people!"

"You deserve your short tail." Mori Tsukisa held a large pile of snacks, pushed past a few drooling brats, and walked under a streetlamp. "It sounds like you don't like wizards?"

Bastet's eyes began to move with the pile of snacks again.

Seeing this, the girl had no choice but to helplessly open the snacks and share them with the dummy god on her shoulder.

"There are a few decent ones, like... (chew) mmm, what was his name... a pretty good human male... (chew)..."

It was as if she hadn't said anything.

"You'll understand when you see them; they're a group of rather unlikable fellows." The black cat licked its paw. "They clearly belong to the human side, yet they label themselves as superior."

"In reality, they aren't."

Mori Tsukisa nodded half-comprehendingly. Suddenly, a huge red tent appeared on the right side of the street—there was a fairly large area where that tent was pitched.

A few flamboyant men stood to the side, posing to attract customers. On top of the tent, crooked words were written in fluorescent ink.

"Skender's Monster Show!"

There was a fence in front of the tent, and the uneven wooden boards listed tonight's performances. The signature at the end belonged to Circus Arcanus—in Latin, it roughly meant a mysterious circle or secret box.

"Here! I've heard of this place!"

The black cat suddenly stood up, staring curiously at the tent. Along the way, both childish spirits had eaten and drunk their fill; it was time to see something fun.

"I heard that last time they were in the Far East, they even exhibited a Thunderbird! But they didn't watch it closely enough in the end, and it flew away... what a pity..."

"Thunderbird?"

The black cat didn't quite know how to explain what a 'Thunderbird' was. It waved its cat paw, mimicking the shape of wings. "It's said that the one exhibited this time is even rarer."

As expected, even a god couldn't discard its feline characteristics.

Mori Tsukisa looked at Bastet's large green eyes staring unblinkingly at the tent door and knew that this fraud of a god hadn't come here to 'entertain her' at all.

It was clearly just curious and wanted to see for itself!

"So what? Without me, you wouldn't have found this place at all." While making excuses, the black cat lightly nipped the girl's earlobe with its sharp little teeth. "Go, go, let's go see!"

"Since I woke up, I haven't seen such an interesting change. Oh, I can't just take naps casually in the future."

Mori Tsukisa pulled the black cat down from her shoulder, tucked it into her arms, and walked to the front of the tent.

The gesticulating, flamboyant man noticed her.

"Hey! Miss, would you like to see an absolutely spectacular monster show?"

"Today, Old Skender has brought in a miraculous exhibit!"

"Want to take a look?"

The man's face, covered in thick powder, appeared even paler. As he hopped around in front of Mori Tsukisa, he took a palm-sized horn from his pocket. After a 'toot-toot' sound, a small red banner popped out.

One side of the banner was printed with 'Skender', and the other side featured a middle-aged man with a brownish-gold beard and a very receding hairline.

"Come on, Miss! Today is a major blockbuster! We won't be staying in Cairo for many more days!"

Mori Tsukisa curled her lip, holding the cat as she walked into the circus tent.
