🎪 STADIUM ENERGY
The Jamsil Indoor Stadium was even more packed than for the quarterfinals – over 12,000 fans filled every seat, with thousands more watching the live broadcast on Road FC's streaming platform. Ji-Ho's section was a sea of black and red, with fans waving banners that read "SILENT STRIKER – OUR CHAMPION" and "FROM CLASSROOM TO CAGE."
Dong-Hyun entered first to loud cheers from his Busan supporters, his massive frame making him look even more imposing under the bright cage lights. He'd been training specifically for Ji-Ho, and his corner team carried signs that read "TAKE HIM DOWN – KEEP HIM DOWN."
When Ji-Ho walked out to the cage, the crowd erupted. His family was front and center, his sisters holding up a huge photo of him from his first day at Dragon MMA Gym. Min-Ji, Takeshi, Chen Ling, and So-Yeon stood together near the cage, all wearing matching "Silent Striker" shirts.
"YOU'VE GOT THIS!" Min-Ji shouted as he stepped inside the cage.
Ji-Ho nodded, his focus already shifting to the fight ahead. He'd taped his hands himself, just like he'd practiced hundreds of times, and his custom necklace from Min-Ji rested against his chest under his fight gear.
⏱️ ROUND 1 – THE WRESTLING STORM
"3… 2… 1… FIGHT!"
Dong-Hyun wasted no time – he charged forward immediately, feinting a punch before shooting for a double-leg takedown. Ji-Ho sprawled quickly, using the techniques he'd drilled with the Olympic wrestler, but Dong-Hyun's strength was overwhelming. He drove through Ji-Ho's defense and slammed him to the mat just 15 seconds into the round.
"GET BACK TO YOUR FEET!" Coach Kim yelled from the corner.
Dong-Hyun moved to half-guard, pressing his weight down hard on Ji-Ho's chest. He landed light ground-and-pound strikes, staying within the rules but keeping Ji-Ho busy. Ji-Ho tried to create space with his legs, but Dong-Hyun's top control was solid – exactly as they'd expected.
With two minutes left, Ji-Ho saw his opening. As Dong-Hyun leaned in to throw a punch, Ji-Ho wrapped his legs around Dong-Hyun's head and arm, locking in a triangle choke from his back – a move he'd practiced countless times with Chen Ling.
The crowd roared as Ji-Ho squeezed with all his strength, but Dong-Hyun was too strong. He lifted Ji-Ho off the mat and slammed him back down, breaking the hold. Ji-Ho rolled with the impact and scrambled to his feet, but Dong-Hyun was on him immediately, shooting for another takedown.
The round ended with Dong-Hyun in control on the ground. Ji-Ho walked back to his corner breathing heavily, his shoulder already sore from the slam.
"Good job surviving that round!" Coach Park said, dabbing his forehead with a towel. "He's strong, but he's expending a lot of energy. Keep defending, make him work for every takedown – his stamina won't hold up all fight."
💥 ROUND 2 – TURNING THE TIDE
Ji-Ho came out for the second round with a new plan. Instead of waiting for Dong-Hyun to shoot, he pressed forward first, throwing quick jabs and low kicks to keep him guessing. Every time Dong-Hyun dropped his level to shoot, Ji-Ho threw a hard knee to the body or an elbow to the head – light contact, but enough to make Dong-Hyun think twice.
With 90 seconds gone, Dong-Hyun shot for a single-leg takedown. Ji-Ho defended with a whizzer, then used his footwork to spin around and take Dong-Hyun's back – exactly the reversal they'd practiced with Coach Park.
The crowd went wild as Ji-Ho wrapped his legs around Dong-Hyun's waist in a body triangle. He landed soft strikes to the side of Dong-Hyun's head to keep him busy, then reached for his neck to set up a rear-naked choke.
Dong-Hyun fought hard, trying to shake Ji-Ho off, but Ji-Ho's grip was tight. Just as he was about to squeeze, Dong-Hyun spun forward, slamming Ji-Ho against the cage and breaking free. Both fighters scrambled to their feet, breathing heavily now – the pace of the fight taking its toll on both of them.
Ji-Ho used his footwork to circle away, then threw a spinning back kick that grazed Dong-Hyun's ribs. The Busan fighter grunted and charged forward, throwing wild punches that Ji-Ho avoided with head movement. As Dong-Hyun overcommitted, Ji-Ho landed a crisp right cross that snapped his head back.
The round ended with both fighters exhausted but standing. Ji-Ho's corner was fired up – he'd shown he could not only defend against Dong-Hyun's wrestling but also turn the tables on him.
⚡ ROUND 3 – THE FINAL STAND
The third and final round began with both fighters knowing this would decide the match. Dong-Hyun looked winded now – his takedown attempts slower and less explosive. Ji-Ho was tired too, but his endurance training with Coach Kang was paying off – his movements were still sharp and controlled.
Dong-Hyun shot for another takedown, but this time Ji-Ho was ready. He sprawled perfectly, then used his hips to lift Dong-Hyun off the ground and throw him to the mat – a move he'd learned from watching Khabib Nurmagomedov's fights.
Ji-Ho moved to mount, then transitioned to side control. He landed clean ground-and-pound strikes, then locked in an arm-triangle choke – the same submission Roger Gracie had used to win countless matches.
Dong-Hyun fought it for as long as he could, but the hold was deep. With just 30 seconds left in the fight, he had no choice but to tap.
"TAP! TAP! THE FIGHT IS OVER!"
The referee pulled Ji-Ho off as the stadium exploded in cheers. Ji-Ho fell to his knees, exhausted but ecstatic – he'd made it to the tournament final.
🤝 RESPECT & RECOGNITION
Dong-Hyun walked over and helped Ji-Ho to his feet, a wide smile on his face. "You're tough," he said, clapping Ji-Ho on the shoulder. "I thought my wrestling would be too much for you, but you adapted. You deserve to be in the final."
As Ji-Ho's hand was raised in victory, the announcer's voice boomed through the stadium:
"AND YOUR WINNER BY SUBMISSION – KIM JI-HO! HE'S HEADED TO THE ROAD FC AMATEUR BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!"
His team rushed into the cage, lifting him up as confetti fell from the ceiling. Min-Ji ran down to the cage fence, tears streaming down her face as she held up a sign that read "NEXT STOP – CHAMPION!"
Chen Ling and So-Yeon hugged each other – they'd helped him get this far, and their hard work had paid off. Takeshi was already planning a celebration dinner, while his family waved frantically from the front row.
As Ji-Ho was led out of the cage, he saw the tournament championship belt on display near the entrance – gleaming under the lights, waiting for its new owner. The final would be held in just four weeks, on June 20, against the winner of the other semi-final match between Park Seung-Min and a fighter from Japan.
But for now, Ji-Ho allowed himself to celebrate. He'd overcome incredible odds, faced down the best wrestler in the tournament, and earned his spot in the final.
The road to be a champion was almost complete – but the hardest fight was still to come.
