Suddenly, Swanna launched the first attack.

A spiraling wave of water formed out of thin air and shot forward like a spinning blade.
This was a powerful mid-level Water-type attack.
If it struck directly, even Alakazam would suffer significant damage.
A wall of light instantly appeared in front of Alakazam.
"Reflect!"
The moment Water Pulse struck the barrier, it vanished as if swallowed whole.
Then, to everyone's surprise, the water attack emerged from the other side of the barrier and shot back toward Swanna.
The reflected Water Pulse twisted through the air.
However, Swanna easily avoided it.
Immediately afterward, Swanna charged straight toward Alakazam.
Skyla was clearly experienced.
Unlike Gengar, Alakazam specialized in defensive Psychic techniques such as Reflect.
Long-range Water-type attacks were unlikely to accomplish much.
As Swanna flew forward, its body suddenly changed.
Its feathers softened, its muscles tightened, and its physique became far more suited for close combat.
"Roost!"
The transformation skill had activated.
Although Swanna was primarily known as a Water/Flying Pokémon, after using Roost, its body became much more stable and better suited for aerial melee combat.
Seeing this, Alakazam immediately responded.
A silver spoon appeared in its hand.
"Kinesis!"
The spoon bent and reshaped itself into a curved boomerang.
Sam remembered taking Sabrina to buy special equipment before. The purchase hadn't been random.
Alakazam excelled at controlling boomerang-shaped weapons.
With a flick of its wrist, the spoon spun into the air.
Using its Psychic power, Alakazam controlled the boomerang as though it were an extension of its own body.
The spinning weapon shot toward Swanna.
For a moment, Swanna and the silver boomerang danced across the sky.
Although the boomerang moved at incredible speed, Swanna remained equally agile.
Attack after attack missed.
Then Swanna let out a long cry.
"Bubble Beam!"
A stream of bubbles fired toward Alakazam.
Skyla knew very well that ranged attacks alone wouldn't break through Alakazam's defenses.
However, forcing Alakazam to use Reflect would distract it from controlling the boomerang.
That brief opening was enough.
The moment Alakazam activated Reflect, Swanna soared higher into the sky.
Then it folded its wings and dove downward.
"Brave Bird!"
This was Swanna's strongest Flying-type attack.
If it connected directly, Alakazam would almost certainly be knocked out.
But Sabrina remained calm.
A flash of Psychic energy appeared.
"Ally Switch!"
In an instant, Alakazam and Swanna exchanged positions.
Swanna's devastating dive missed entirely.
The audience thought the attack was over.
Then a blur suddenly appeared behind Alakazam.
A bird-shaped shadow streaked forward at astonishing speed.
There was no time to react.
"Aerial Ace!"
The attack struck from behind.
