Chapter 209 - Chapter 209: The Desert Ruins

Flygon.

A rare Dragon-type Pokémon.

Its appearance resembled a Western dragon, with a predominantly green body. Its large red eyes were covered by a protective lens-like structure, allowing it to see clearly even in sandstorms.

---

Pokémon: Flygon

Type: Ground / Dragon

Strength: High Gym Level

Potential: Elite

---

After long observation, Sam had realized something—

There was a clear bottleneck between high Gym level and Elite level.

Many Pokémon were stuck there.

It wasn't due to lack of talent, but insufficient accumulation. Breaking into the Elite tier required a solid foundation and massive energy reserves. Without that, progress would stall.

Although Flygon could fly, it was still classified as Ground/Dragon type.

That always felt a bit ironic.

With a faint smile, Sam made his choice.

If that was the case—

He'd send out a Pokémon that looked like a dragon but technically wasn't one.

"Come out—Charizard."

A flash of red light burst forth as Charizard landed on the field.

The moment both Pokémon faced each other—

The pressure was palpable.

"Roar!!!"

Charizard let out a powerful roar, asserting dominance.

Not to be outdone, Flygon responded with its own cry.

"Shaaa!"

---

After the Battle

Later, inside a café in Rustboro City, Sam sat across from Keiko and her group.

Flygon had put up a good fight—

But it was still no match for Charizard.

After an intense battle, Charizard secured the victory.

Taking a sip of his drink, Sam got straight to the point.

"So… can you tell me about these ruins now?"

He was genuinely curious.

What kind of place could make Millie so determined to go?

Keiko took a sip of coffee before speaking.

"You should know about the Hoenn Desert, right?"

"The largest desert in Hoenn."

"I know it," Sam nodded.

"We discovered ruins there," she continued, lowering her voice.

"…and they might be connected to Regirock."

"Regirock?!" Sam couldn't help but react.

"Keep your voice down!" Keiko snapped.

"Sorry… that just caught me off guard."

And it did.

A Legendary Pokémon—

And not just any, but one of the ancient Regi trio.

Sam looked at them differently now.

These people—

Were bold. Extremely bold.

They weren't even Elite-level trainers, yet they were planning to approach a Legendary Pokémon.

"That's not what you think," Keiko quickly explained.

"We're not trying to fight it. We just want to observe it up close… maybe record it."

Then she added:

"We're content creators. We stream adventures—ruins, rare Pokémon, that kind of thing."

That explained everything.

If they managed to capture footage of Regirock—

They'd go viral instantly.

"We've done our research," Keiko continued.

"Not all Legendary Pokémon are overwhelmingly strong. Many aren't even stronger than the ace Pokémon of top Trainers."

Sam didn't respond immediately.

That statement wasn't entirely wrong—

But it was dangerously incomplete.

"Top Trainers" meant people at least on the Elite Four level.

For normal trainers?

Facing a Legendary Pokémon was no different from walking into disaster.

Still—

They were lucky.

They had unknowingly found someone who could actually handle that level of danger.

System Mission

Ding!

Gym Mission: Guardian of the Gym

You have taken on an apprentice, but your Gym still lacks sufficient defensive strength.

Objective: Capture the three Legendary Titans and make them guardians of the Viridian Gym.

Difficulty: SSSS

---

Sam rubbed his temples.

His system really didn't hold back.

Capture Legendary Pokémon?

And not just one—

Three.

Setting aside whether he could defeat them—

The real problem was finding them.

Right now, he only had a possible lead on Regirock.

Even that wasn't confirmed.

Still—

There was no time limit.

And the rewards…

Would definitely be worth it.

"Accepted."

---

Departure

With the decision made, Keiko immediately told everyone to prepare.

Within half an hour, Sam and the group were at the train station in Rustboro City, carrying their luggage.

Their destination:

Mauville City — the closest city to the desert.

From there, they would head into the Hoenn Desert.

After boarding the tram and finding his seat, Sam released one of his Pokémon.

"Come out—Dratini."

"Draa~!"

After spending so long inside its Poké Ball, Dratini looked excited to finally be outside.

"Is that… Dratini?" Keiko asked, eyes widening.

"That's right."

"Can I take a photo?" she asked eagerly.

Dratini was extremely rare—

On the same level as Beldum or Bagon in terms of rarity.

If she could record it and upload the footage—

It would definitely attract massive attention.
