Corvine shook his head, eyes locked straight ahead on the road. "Your possessive boyfriend isn't breathing down my neck anymore."
He actually loved how crazy possessive Voren was over Seraphine, but damn, he had to admit it was stressful as hell for a guy like him.
He'd been raised and trained to serve, even though he came from a wealthy family. That kind of pressure could wear on anybody.
His words hit just right though, pulling a real, genuine laugh out of Seraphine, the kind she couldn't hold back even if she tried her hardest. The word boyfriend sounded strange to her because she was never technically in a relationship before.
Now, it made her feel like a teenager. Corvine felt his own smile stretch wide across his face. For years he'd watched Seraphine carry burdens that would've completely crushed most people.
Hearing her laugh so freely like that? It felt like the best damn reward he could ask for.
