Chapter 11 - LIGHTS OF A NEW LIFE

Months had passed since Jay disappeared.

The world had searched for answers, but none came.

Instead, a new name had taken over the music industry.

Jae Rin.

No one knew where she came from.

No interviews revealed her past.

No old photos existed.

And most importantly…

No one had ever seen her full face.

Tonight, the arena was completely packed. Thousands of fans filled the seats, screaming and waving glowing light sticks. Giant screens around the stage displayed the words:

JAE RIN – FIRST LIVE CONCERT

Backstage, Jay stood silently.

In her hands was the one thing that protected her new life.

Her mask.

It was elegant — black with silver designs along the edges, covering the upper half of her face. Under the bright stage lights it almost shimmered.

She had worn it in every music video.

Every performance.

Every public appearance.

It wasn't just a style choice.

It was protection.

As long as the mask stayed on…

Her past stayed hidden.

Her stylist adjusted the strap behind her head.

"There. Perfect."

Jay looked at herself in the mirror.

The girl staring back looked powerful.

Confident.

Untouchable.

Nothing like the girl she used to be.

"Two minutes," the stage manager called.

The noise from the crowd was already shaking the walls.

"JAE RIN! JAE RIN! JAE RIN!"

Jay exhaled slowly.

Tonight was her first concert.

The intro music began playing through the arena speakers. The giant screen lit up with dramatic visuals — city lights, flashing cameras, storm clouds.

Then her name appeared.

JAE RIN

The crowd exploded with screams.

Backstage someone began the countdown.

"Ten."

Jay adjusted her grip on the microphone.

"Nine."

Her heart pounded in her chest.

"Eight."

But the mask made her feel safe.

"Seven."

Hidden.

"Six."

Untouchable.

"Five."

No one could recognize her.

"Four."

No one could find her.

"Three."

Her new life was hers alone.

"Two."

Jay stepped toward the stage.

"One."

The lights burst across the arena.

Jay walked out.

The screams were deafening.

Thousands of fans jumped and waved their phones, trying to capture the moment. The giant screens zoomed in on her masked face, the silver patterns glowing under the stage lights.

The mystery only made the fans love her more.

The masked superstar.

She lifted the microphone.

"Hello everyone."

The crowd screamed louder.

"I'm Jae Rin."

The music dropped.

Her first song began.

The bass shook the entire arena as Jay started singing. Her voice echoed powerfully through the stadium. Fans immediately sang along, already knowing every lyric.

She moved across the stage confidently, her long coat flowing behind her.

The mask stayed perfectly in place.

Song after song filled the arena.

Bright lights.

Fireworks shooting from the stage.

Confetti cannons exploding above the crowd.

Fans held signs that read:

"THE MASKED QUEEN"

"WE LOVE YOU JAE RIN"

"SHOW US YOUR FACE SOMEDAY"

Jay smiled behind the mask.

But that day would not come anytime soon.

Halfway through the concert, the lights dimmed.

A soft piano melody began.

Jay stepped forward slowly.

"This next song," she said quietly, "is about finding yourself again… even after everything falls apart."

The arena fell silent.

"So I never really knew you

God, I really tried to

Blindsided, addicted

Thought we could really do this

But really, I was foolish

Hindsight, it's obvious Talking with my lawyer

She said, "Where'd you find this guy?"

I said, "Young people fall in love

With the wrong people sometimes"Some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

You can think that you're in love

When you're really just in pain

Some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

In the end, it's better for me

That's the moral of the story, babe It's funny how a memory

Turns into a bad dream

When running wild turns volatile

Remember how we painted our house?

Just like my grandparents did

So romantic, but we fought the whole time

Should've seen the signs, yeah Talking with my lawyer (a/n it was support he mother but her mother was toxic so no)

She said, "Where'd you find this guy?"

Said, "Some people fall in love

With the wrong people sometimes"Some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

You can think that you're in love

When you're really just in pain

Some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

In the end, it's better for me

That's the moral of the story, babe they say it's better to have loved and lost

Than never to have loved at all

That could be a load of shit

But I just need to tell you all some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

You can think that you're in love

When you're really just engaged

Some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

In the end, it's better for me

That's the moral of the story Some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

You can think that you're in love

When you're really just in pain

Some mistakes get made

That's alright, that's okay

In the end, it's better for me

That's the moral of the story, babe"

She sang softly, her voice full of emotion.

Some fans cried.

Others just listened in complete silence.

When the final note ended, the entire arena erupted with applause.

The concert continued with even more energy. Dancers joined her on stage, lasers flashing across the crowd while the music pounded through the speakers.

Finally, the last song began.

Her biggest hit.

The entire arena screamed the lyrics with her.

As the final chorus ended, golden confetti rained from the ceiling.

The music stopped.

But the crowd kept cheering.

Jay stood in the center of the stage, breathing heavily, staring at the thousands of fans who had come just to see her.

Her first concert.

A complete success.

She lifted the mic one last time.

"Thank you for believing in me."

The crowd shouted back.

"WE LOVE YOU JAE RIN!"

Jay bowed slightly.

Then she walked backstage.

Her manager ran up to her, smiling widely.

"That was incredible! You just became even bigger tonight."

Jay slowly removed her in-ear monitor but kept the mask on.

Always the mask.

Because somewhere out there…

People were still looking for the girl she used to be.

And far away, in a quiet office filled with investigation files…

Keifer stared at another report.

Still no leads.

Still no answers.

It was as if she had vanished from the world.

Meanwhile, the entire world was now cheering for a mysterious singer they knew only as one name.

Jae Rin.

And no one knew…

The girl behind the mask.
