Chapter 137: Do You Want to Become a Magical Girl?
Regardless of the circumstances, Conan naturally accepted the mission!
And so, just like in the original work, Conan transferred into Class 1-B of Teitan Elementary School.
A fun fact from the world of Detective Conan: Shinichi Kudo is not only an all-rounder in academics and sports, but his "visuals" are top-tier. Even after rejuvenating into Edogawa Conan, he remained a super-handsome kid among elementary students.
This appearance made Conan instantly popular after his transfer, leading him to meet the famous "Teitan Trio"—Ayumi Yoshida, Genta Kojima, and Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya.
However, unlike the original, Conan was exceptionally reticent after joining the school, maintaining the persona of an "ice-cold cool guy." Transferring to Teitan was a task given by Gin. Although the probability was low, there was no guarantee Gin wouldn't show up on a whim in some corner to cast a chilling gaze upon him.
Thinking of this, Conan couldn't relax. On the other hand, he found it difficult to adapt to school life.
"Night Baron is invincible under heaven!!" "Wrong! Little Brother Hunter is the true invincible one!"
During recess, Genta and Mitsuhiko were arguing heatedly over who was the strongest super-hero. After failing to reach a conclusion, they both struck peculiar poses and spoke in unison:
"Since words won't work, let's settle this with a Stand Battle!"
In the next instant, a Stand emerged behind each of them. Genta's Stand was a plump eel with a pair of muscular arms; Mitsuhiko's Stand was a book, also possessing sturdy arms.
Perhaps because they were children, the physical scale of their Stands was reduced, appearing somewhat "mini," but when they started "Ora-ing" each other, they were not to be underestimated. Their battle quickly spread to the other children, who refused to be outdone and summoned their own Stands, triggering a massive brawl.
Suddenly, the classroom was in chaos. Conan, caught in the middle, could only clumsily dodge flying desks and chairs.
In the end, the Class 1-B Stand Riot was terminated by the intrusion of their teacher, Sumiko Kobayashi. Her Stand, named [Phantom with Twenty Faces], suppressed the entire field with its cackling laughter; no one was a match for it.
"The two of you, go out and stand in the hall!"
Under Kobayashi's roar, Genta and Mitsuhiko hung their heads and ran out for punishment.
In this era where everyone had a Stand, Conan felt more acutely than ever how troublesome his "crippled" status was. For example, in the morning, there was a session of [Stand Development and Control Class]. The other children listened intently, even summoning their Stands to practice, while Conan could do nothing but smile bitterly.
He had to make up an excuse that his "Stand is difficult to manipulate and cannot be summoned for now" to appease Kobayashi. She didn't say much; in her class, this wasn't an isolated case. Children's control was weak, and Stand manifestation was often hit-or-miss. Kids like Genta and Mitsuhiko, who could summon Stands reliably for battle, were considered top-tier in the class.
During lunch break, Conan couldn't help himself and ran toward the high school section. From a distance, he saw Ran Mouri. She was leaning against a railing, looking gloomy, while her best friend Sonoko Suzuki chatted with her.
Conan's heart was in turmoil, but he only took one look to confirm she was safe before returning to class.
In the afternoon, a "case" appeared at Teitan Elementary. It wasn't really a case, just the children whispering about the "Seven Mysteries of the School." Conan listened with some interest, and the Teitan Trio dragged him along to investigate.
The result wasn't complex. The "Mysterious Shadow"—one of the Seven Mysteries—was actually just the Dean looking for his lost wig. It turned out the wig had been hidden by the old Principal, who loved practical jokes.
Conan was speechless upon learning the truth, but the incident proved his wisdom to Genta, Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi. They enthusiastically invited him to join the "Junior Detective League." Though Conan was uninterested and tried to brush them off, the three children unilaterally approved his membership anyway.
When Conan returned to the apartment that evening, Gin was already back. He didn't care about how Conan's first day went, simply asking coldly:
"What intel did you gather?"
Conan had already prepared his report and spoke fluently. The information he provided was mostly from his classmates, especially the Trio. They were obsessed with powerful Stand Users and knew all the lore—Shinichi Kudo included.
While the accuracy of children's gossip was questionable, Conan felt it was enough to satisfy Gin. Gin listened silently, neither agreeing nor disagreeing, but Conan noticed a slight relaxation at the corner of Gin's mouth.
In truth, Gin didn't expect real intelligence from Conan; he was testing the boy's attitude and quality when facing a task.
Once Conan finished, Gin pulled out a thick stack of cash and tossed it to him.
"You were too cold at school today. You need more eyes and pawns to collect better intelligence. How you do it is up to you. This is your budget for developing networks. Apply to me if you need more."
To Conan's ears, Gin was effectively telling him to "make more friends at school," which gave him complex feelings.
"Besides school, the Organization's missions cannot stop. Now, follow me."
Gin turned to the door, and Conan followed. Driving the Porsche, Gin took Conan on a tour of Beika Town. Passing certain landmarks, he would slow down or stop:
"This is the Beika Art Museum. Members of the Heavenly Punishment Knights, ranked 9th in Beika's crime rankings, often frequent this place." "This is the Beika Library. The Hidden Moon Legion, ranked 30th, has business here." "This is the Beika Marine Park. The Sinister Kill Mutual Aid Association, ranked 16th, holds meetings here."
Gin introduced them one by one. Conan realized just how much of a "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" town Beika had become. To his eyes, these places radiated high criminal energy, like demonic lairs.
"Beika is a capital of crime," Gin said coldly. "You must familiarize yourself with this. These locations and syndicates are knowledge you must memorize. Keep it secret. Do not approach them unless the mission requires it."
Conan obediently agreed, but in his heart, he was thanking "Big Brother Gin" for giving him, a newbie, a guide to all the leveling spots in Beika. Still, he couldn't help but ask:
"And the Organization? What rank is it?"
Gin paused, then said flatly: "The Organization is Number One on the Beika Crime Leaderboard. However, you must never mention our existence or name in public. Otherwise, not just the police, but other crime syndicates will scramble to cause you trouble. The Organization has had many conflicts with them during missions."
Gin sounded slightly irritated, clearly having dealt with such pests recently. Conan made a sharp mental note in his "Traitor's Notebook" while feeling a sense of gravity. Gin knew the names, ranks, and territories of these groups perfectly—the implications were profound.
Finally, at Beika Park, Gin stopped and lit a cigarette. "The Legion of 666 Beasts often appears here. After school these next few days, hang around here more. You're a child; they won't be as wary of you. Get the intel, don't act rashly, and notify me immediately."
Conan felt a shiver at the lingering killing intent in Gin's voice, but he nodded and accepted.
As Conan's day ended, Mo Yu watched from a higher dimension with a faint smile. In his view, the world-bubble was working overtime to get the Eternal Protagonist onto the stage.
Conan hadn't infiltrated the Mouri Agency, so he couldn't use Kogoro as a medium for cases. But no matter—"Big Brother Gin" had stepped up. Gin provided food, clothing, housing, and an identity, helping Conan progress and earn the title of the "Reaper Elementary Student." Gin even provided the cases. The World Will highly appreciated Gin's proactive role.
But the most interesting thing to Mo Yu was the subtle change in the world. As Conan entered school and took the mission to investigate the 666 Beasts, the "Heavenly Killing Intent" spiked, covering the world in layers. The concentration was highest in Beika—specifically, around Conan.
The "Great Era of Crime" had truly begun. Ordinary people, infected by the surging "Killing Calamity Fortune," would transform into criminals and take the stage with flamboyant cases. Due to the convergence effect, these cases would naturally drift toward Beika and Conan.
The world was becoming more like the original Conan manga in its details, including the "Reaper Halo" that caused victims to die wherever Conan went.
Mo Yu used this phenomenon to ponder his earlier hypothesis: Is this majestic Killing Intent the residue of a 'Conan' from a previous infinite time-loop who went insane because the world-bubble was incomplete?
If true, as the new Shinichi walked the plot line, the surge of malice and the "Reaper Halo" had a different explanation.
While Gin was introducing Beika Park to Conan, he didn't realize that in a hidden corner of that very park, something bizarre was happening.
A pitch-black lump of flesh lurked in a secluded pit, pulsating. Occasionally, a stray cat or bird would pass by, and the amorphous mass would shoot out tentacles to snare and fuse them into its fresh meat. This was the "lizard tail" the criminal used to survive Gin's shot. Or rather, the criminal died; only the flesh carrying the Moriarty Shard survived.
After the Porsche left, the mass finished its restructuring. It twisted and mimicked a stray black cat. The "cat" stepped out of the pit with elegant strides, its blood-red pupils scanning the surroundings. A low, gloomy voice escaped its throat:
"So this is how a cat's senses work? Interesting."
The black cat, carrying the Moriarty fragment, became a vessel for Mo Yu's senses. Some things couldn't be understood from behind a screen; one had to go deep to find the leads.
The cat lifted a paw, which turned into fine tentacles that lashed onto a distant branch, pulling the body across the park. Using this ghostly movement, it navigated Beika.
If my guess is right, Mo Yu thought, the "Insane Conan" once existed. Where would he leave a trail?
The answer was simple: Beika, specifically around those closely related to Conan.
Mo Yu arrived at the Mouri Detective Agency. In this "Era of Crime," the agency seemed more peculiar than before. The concentration of Killing Intent here was higher than elsewhere.
The cat turned into a puddle of black pus and seeped through a window crack. Kogoro was still drinking beer and laughing at Yoko Okino on TV. He seemed normal. Mo Yu then went to find Ran.
In her room, Ran was supposed to be studying, but she was distracted, her expression full of sorrow. As the heroine, she looked perfectly ordinary—a simple high school girl.
But it was too ordinary. The vast malice of the world seemed to intentionally bypass her, never infecting her in the slightest.
Mo Yu decided to "startle the snake" to see what would happen. He jumped onto Ran's desk in the form of the black cat.
"Hey, young lady. Interested in signing a contract with me and becoming a Magical Girl?"
