[Perspective: Arya Chen]
The scenery outside the window had shifted from the lush forests to a more rugged landscape.
I sat cross legged on the silk cushioned bench.
In front of me was an alchemical cauldron.
It was a portable unit, specifically designed for refinement while traveling.
I was pushing the limits of the Vermillion Sunheart Scripture and the knowledge I had plundered from the "Grandfather Alchemist," attempting to refine elixirs suitable for the Nascent Soul realm.
It was a delicate process. The spiritual herbs required for such pills were incredibly volatile.
A fraction of a degree too hot, a moment too long in the flame, and the entire batch would become toxic sludge… or worse, an explosive hazard that would turn my carriage into a crater.
I guided a stream of energy into the cauldron, enveloping a stalk of Frost Fire Root.
Suddenly, a familiar voice echoed in my mind, shattering my concentration.
[Subsystem Host 'Lei Tian' has perished. Harvest complete.]
The fire in the cauldron flared dangerously. I quickly withdrew my Qi, allowing the refinement to cool safely.
I leaned back.
[Inheritance Processed: Cultivation of Initial Stage Nascent Soul Realm.]
[Note: Host Lei Tian was killed during the final stages of Golden Core compression. True Nascent Soul formation was incomplete at time of death.]
[Inheritance Processed: Earth Grade Iron Forge Body.]
[Inheritance Processed: Earth Grade Talent.]
[Inheritance Processed: Mortal Grade Faint Thunder Affinity Bloodline.]
[All inheritances have been refined and integrated into Host's Nascent Soul.]
The energy surged into my Dantian.
I called up my status screen.
[Host Profile: Arya Chen]
[Cultivation: Peak Stage Nascent Soul Realm]
[Progress toward Initial Stage Soul Transformation: 7.75%]
I frowned. A mere 6% increase.
"I thought this harvest might push me closer to the threshold," I mused.
Still, I was not dissatisfied. Even at the Peak Stage of the Nascent Soul realm, with my Divine Talent, my Heaven Grade techniques and physique… my total combat power was staggering.
If I were forced into a confrontation, I was confident I could fight an Initial Stage Soul Transformation expert to a standstill, perhaps even defeat them if I utilized my full arsenal.
I turned my attention to the physical upgrades.
[Talent Synergy: Earth Grade integrated. Progress toward Immortal Grade Talent: 40%]
[Physique Synergy: Earth Grade integrated. Progress toward Divine Grade Physique: 40%]
[Bloodline Synergy: Mortal Grade integrated. Progress toward Divine Grade Bloodline: 10%]
I dismissed the interface. I turned my attention back to the cooling cauldron.
The journey continued.
I spent the days refining, testing the limits of my alchemical knowledge, pushing myself to create more potent elixirs.
On the seventh day, the rugged mountains gave way to a fertile valley.
A massive river cut through the center of the green expanse.
And nestled in the heart of that valley, rising like a jewel from the earth, was the Verdant River Palace.
It was a sprawling complex of elegant pavilions, white stone towers, and meticulously manicured gardens, all integrated seamlessly into the natural flow of the river and the surrounding forests.
It projected an aura of serene power.
As my carriage rolled toward the towering main gates, I could feel the dense spiritual energy radiating from the sect's formations.
The carriage rolled to a halt at the grand entrance.
Waiting for us, flanked by a dozen disciples in the green robes of the Palace, was an elder.
He was a man of middle years, with a neat beard and a warm smile.
I stepped out of the carriage, adjusting my crimson robes.
"Welcome, Young Master Arya!" the elder called out. He stepped forward, offering a formal bow. "I am Elder Lin, of the Outer Court Reception Hall. The Verdant River Palace is honored to host the genius of the Chen Family."
I returned the bow, ensuring my smile matched his enthusiasm.
"The honor is mine, Elder Lin," I replied. "The reputation of the Palace's beauty and hospitality precedes it. The reality, however, far exceeds the tales."
Elder Lin laughed, clearly pleased. "You are too kind, Young Master. Please, the journey must have been arduous. Allow my steward to direct your coachman to our guest stables. The beasts will be well cared for."
He gestured to a steward, who quickly took charge of my carriage and driver.
"If you and your esteemed guards would follow me," Elder Lin said, extending a hand toward the open gates. "We have prepared a reception hall for the initial discussions."
"Lead the way, Elder," I said.
My ten Elite Guards formed a loose perimeter around me, their hands resting casually near their weapons.
The disciples of the Palace watched them warily, but Elder Lin merely smiled, leading us deep into the sect.
We walked through pristine courtyards and over arched stone bridges that spanned smaller tributaries of the main river.
We arrived at a large pavilion situated over a quiet lotus pond.
"This is the Azure Harmony Hall," Elder Lin announced, stopping at the threshold. He turned to me, his smile remaining fixed. "The elder tasked with discussing the trade agreement awaits you inside. However, protocol dictates that negotiations of this sensitivity be conducted in private."
He glanced at my guards. "If your escort would be so kind as to wait in the antechamber? Refreshments have been provided."
I nodded to the captain of my escort. "Wait here."
"Yes, Young Master," captain replied.
I stepped into the pavilion.
The room was elegantly furnished.
Sitting at a low table near the open window, looking out over the lotus pond, was a man.
He wore the dark green robes of an Inner Sect Elder. He was a Golden Core expert, likely at the Late Stage.
He turned as I entered.
"Ah, Young Master Arya," he said, gesturing to the cushion opposite him. "Please, take a seat. I am Elder Zhao. It is a pleasure to finally meet the young dragon of Clearwater City."
I offered a polite nod and sat down.
"The pleasure is mine, Elder Zhao," I replied.
"Tea?" he offered.
"Thank you."
He poured the tea.
We sat in silence for a moment, sipping the fragrant brew. It was a classic negotiation tactic… let the silence stretch, test the opponent's patience.
After a respectable interval, I reached into my sleeve and produced the sealed scroll containing the trade agreement.
"Elder Zhao," I began, placing the scroll on the table between us. "Chen Family is willing to forge a lasting partnership with the Verdant River Palace. In light of the... disruption in the domain's supply chains, we recognize your need for a reliable source of medicinal resources."
I tapped the scroll. "This contract outlines our proposal. We are prepared to supply the Palace with your required quotas of Tier 1 and Tier 2 pills. Furthermore, to demonstrate our sincerity and our desire for a long term alliance, we are offering these supplies at a fifteen percent discount relative to the current market price."
I leaned back slightly, projecting the confident aura of a man offering a generous deal. "As I am sure your intelligence network can confirm, our standard offer to other minor sects currently seeking our patronage is a five percent discount. We consider the Palace a priority."
Elder Zhao picked up the scroll.
He placed it on the table beside his teacup, his pleasant smile never wavering.
"A generous offer, Young Master Arya," Elder Zhao said. "Your business acumen is as sharp as your reputation suggests."
He leaned forward, intertwining his fingers. "However, the Palace is not particularly interested in discounts."
I raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Then what is the Palace interested in, Elder Zhao?"
"Stability," he replied. "The sudden rise of the Chen Family's production capacity is... impressive. But relying on an external supplier for our core needs is a vulnerability. What happens if your family decides to raise prices? What happens if your supply lines are disrupted?"
"We have guaranteed the quotas in the contract," I pointed out.
