Chapter 85 - Chapter 85: Venomous Sanctuary (1)

Jin Hao reached the threshold of the elegant safe house, nearly collapsing against the lacquered sliding doors. Before he could even raise his hand to knock, the doors slid open.

Su Lian stood there, framed by the golden light of the interior. She wore a simple white robe that made her look like a descending goddess of mercy. Her eyes widened, taking in the horrific sight of the blood soaked father and the exhausted son.

A look of heart wrenching pity washed over her delicate features.

"Jin Hao," she breathed, her voice trembling with an emotion so raw it made his chest ache. "Oh, heavens above."

Jin Hao carried his father into the designated room, gently lowering the broken man onto a bed of plush white silk.

The dark blood immediately began to stain the expensive fabric, but Su Lian didn't even glance at the ruin of her furniture. Her entire focus was on the dying man and the son who had risked everything to save him.

"I gave him a healing pill," Jin Hao choked out, his knees finally giving way. He dropped to the floor beside the divan, his hands hovering uselessly over his father's ruined chest. "But the internal damage... they tortured him. They tortured him because of me."

"Hush," Su Lian said softly, dropping to her knees right beside him, heedless of the dirt and blood soaking into her own robes. She looked into Jin Hao's eyes, her gaze a comforting pool. "You saved him. You brought him here. You did what no one else had the courage to do."

She turned to her maid, her voice ringing with absolute authority. "Suyu, bring the Spirit Mending drops. Use everything we have. I do not care about the cost. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Young Miss." Suyu replied, bowing deeply before rushing to a cabinet in the corner.

Jin Hao looked at Su Lian, his heart swelling to the point of bursting. She was giving up her own precious resources, resources she had complained her father denied, to save his father. She was truly an angel.

"Thank you," Jin Hao whispered, his voice cracking. "I... I will never forget this. I owe you my life."

Suyu returned with a lacquered wooden box filled with high grade medicinal pastes and silver needles.

"Young Master Jin, please step back," the maid said professionally. "I need space to clear the meridians and apply the poultices. The bruising around the heart is severe."

Jin Hao reluctantly shuffled back, sitting cross legged on the floor. Su Lian remained standing nearby, her hands clasped in prayer, her face a portrait of anxious devotion.

Suyu's hands moved with practiced efficiency. She cleaned the deepest lacerations on Jin Ren's chest and back, applying a glowing green paste that immediately began to soothe the angry red flesh.

She then took out a set of thin silver needles, expertly inserting them into specific acupoints to stabilize the chaotic flow of the man's failing Qi.

Jin Hao watched, mesmerized by the healing process, feeling the residual tension slowly drain from his muscles.

Because of his overwhelming relief and his blinding infatuation with the woman standing across the room, his enhanced spiritual senses were completely focused outward, scanning the perimeter of the safe house for pursuing Jin Family guards.

He did not look closely at Suyu's hands.

If he had, he might have noticed that as the maid applied a poultice near the base of Jin Ren's neck, she expertly palmed a tiny glass needle hidden beneath her sleeve.

With a movement so smooth it looked like a simple massage of the pressure point, she pierced the skin directly over the carotid artery and injected a single drop of an odorless fluid into the bloodstream.

It was a poison designed to lie dormant in the marrow before violently disrupting the heart valves exactly one month after administration. It mimicked the exact symptoms of a delayed organ failure due to extreme physical trauma.

Suyu withdrew her hand, tossing the hidden glass needle into the bloody rags in her basin, her expression never shifting from one of dutiful concentration.

"The bleeding has stopped," Suyu announced after nearly an hour of tense silence. "His meridians are severely damaged and his foundation is cracked. But... his life force is stabilizing."

Jin Hao let out a breath. He slumped forward, pressing his forehead against the wooden floorboards. "Thank the heavens."

"Thank Suyu's skill," Su Lian corrected gently, placing a comforting hand on Jin Hao's shoulder. "And your own bravery."

Several hours passed. The moon began its descent, casting peaceful shadows across the tranquil courtyard.

Jin Hao refused to leave the bedside, sitting vigil while Su Lian stayed with him, offering quiet words of comfort and cups of warm tea.

Finally, as the first hint of gray touched the eastern sky, Jin Ren let out a low groan.

His eyelids fluttered, crusted with dried sweat. He coughed and slowly opened his eyes. He looked up at the unfamiliar ceiling, confusion masking the pain in his expression.

"Father," Jin Hao said, surging forward and gripping the older man's uninjured hand. "Father, you're awake."

Jin Ren turned his head, wincing as the movement pulled at his bandaged neck. His eyes focused on his son. "Hao'er..." he rasped, his voice barely a whisper. "The dungeon..."

"I got you out," Jin Hao said, a fierce pride in his voice. "I tore their prison apart."

Jin Ren's eyes widened, a flash of pure terror piercing through his exhaustion. "You... you attacked the main estate? Hao'er, you fool! They will kill you!"

"They couldn't stop me," Jin Hao said, his grip tightening.

Jin Ren coughed again, his gaze drifting past his son to the beautiful young woman standing a few paces away. "Where... where are we? Who is this?"

Jin Hao turned, looking at Su Lian with a reverence that bordered on worship. He stood up, gesturing to her.

"Father, this is Miss Su Lian. The Second Miss of the Su Family," Jin Hao said, his voice thick with emotion. "She is my friend. She gave me the map to the dungeons. She provided this safe house. She used her own personal medicine to pull you back from the brink of death."

Jin Ren's eyes widened in profound shock. The Su Family? Helping a banished branch member of a rival clan? He struggled to lift his head, a look of overwhelming gratitude on his weathered face.

"Miss Su..." Jin Ren wheezed, attempting to bow his head from the pillow. "This lowly one... owes you a debt that cannot be repaid in ten lifetimes. To risk the wrath of the Jin Patriarch for us... you are a saint."

Su Lian stepped forward, her smile perfectly balanced between humble and sweet. She gently placed a hand on Jin Ren's shoulder, easing him back down.

"Please, Uncle Jin, do not exert yourself," she said, her voice like chimes in the wind. "I could not stand by and watch such cruelty. Jin Hao is a man of great potential and a kind heart. The world has been unfair to you both. It was my honor to offer a sanctuary."
