Just go back to your wife," I finally said, breaking the silence that had stretched uncomfortably between us.
The words left my mouth quietly, but they felt heavier than anything I had said that night.
Victor didn't move.
The room was so still that I could hear the faint ticking of the clock on the wall.
"I know you love my sister," I continued slowly, forcing the words out before my courage could disappear. "And yes… I know this was what I wanted once. I wanted you to love me."
My fingers twisted nervously in the sheets beneath me.
"But it's too late now. My priorities have changed."
Saying it hurt more than I expected.
The truth was tangled somewhere inside me, buried under too many emotions to untangle.
"I realized something," I added, swallowing the lump forming in my throat. "I probably wanted you because Elena had you."
Victor didn't react, but I could feel his eyes on me.
