Chapter 40 - Chapter 40 Compensation

Victor Grey had decided to stay in the hospital since it was better to be away from the company of his so called wife and burdens he called children.

Well things were supposed to be in a good mood with nurse Roxelle.

For the first time in weeks, he felt relaxed.

He had decided to settle his debts little by little and had gone a bit debt free after that son of a bitch Felix had done his worst trick on him.

He knew he would be dead meat if he didn't pay for the losses of the butcher whom the so called squire was representing.

He had assigned his right hand man Jevon to handle the bills and debts carefully.

All he had to do was raid some little insect territory, it would still amount to nothing all he needed was to find the five hundred million dollars that was left.

He looked at the distant number on his phone screen and dialed the number without hesitation.

A familiar voice answered the call.

"What now?"

"Louis"

The door opened.

Three men entered.

Expensive suits.

Calm expressions.

No weapons in sight.

Roxelle smiled politely.

"Visiting hours are almost over".

The tallest man returned the smile.

"We won't be long."

Something about his voice made Victor's

stomach tighten.

The men approached the bed.

"Mr. Grey."

Victor frowned.

"Who are you?"

The man placed a black folder on the blanket.

"We're here regarding your debt."

Victor's expression darkened.

"What debt?"

The three men exchanged amused glances.

The tallest opened the folder and slid several documents toward him.

Victor's face slowly drained of color.

Impossible.

The figures were correct.

Every loan.

Every hidden transaction.

Every desperate move he had made after

Felix began destroying his businesses.

Someone had found everything.

"You've made a mistake ," Victor snapped.

"We rarely do. I've been paying my debts"

The nurse glanced between them nervously.

Victor clenched the papers.

"Are you?"

The room fell silent.

For the first time, Victor couldn't answer.

The man sat down beside the bed.

"Mr Roman still needs his money and you owe someone compensation"

Victor looked up sharply.

"What compensation? I owe no one else"

A slow smile spread across the man's face.

"You do"the man replied.

He slid a single photograph onto the bed.

Felix.

Victor's hand began to shake.

"No..."

"Oh yes."

The visitor leaned forward.

"Mr. Felix I mean the Squire sends his regards."

Victor's pulse thundered in his ears.

This wasn't an accident.

The bankruptcy.

The investigations.

The missing contracts.

The debt.

Felix had planned all of it.

Years of preparation.

Years of waiting.

Years of revenge.

"What does he want?" Victor whispered.

The man chuckled.

"Everything."

Roxelle stepped backward.

She suddenly felt like she was standing in a war zone.

The visitor rose from his chair.

"You have thirty days."

Victor swallowed hard.

"And if I don't pay?"

The smile vanished from the man's face.

The room grew cold.

"Then we'll begin collecting assets."

Victor's breathing became uneven.

The man adjusted his cuffs.

"Businesses."

A pause.

"Properties."

Another pause.

"And perhaps members of the Grey family."

Victor froze.

For the first time in years, genuine fear appeared in his eyes.

The visitors turned toward the door.

Before leaving, the tallest man stopped.

"Oh, one more thing."

Victor looked up.

The man smiled.

"Your son won't be able to save you this time."

The door closed.

Silence filled the room.

The nurse quietly left without saying a word.

Victor sat alone staring at Felix's photograph.

For the first time, he understood the truth.

The boy he had once crushed beneath his heel had returned as something far more dangerous.

Victor's trembling fingers tightened around the photograph.

Then he whispered the only name that came to mind.

"Louis..."
