CHAPTERS 40

DAEMON'S POV

"So what are you doing about it? You can't let this group fall under the protection of someone who isn't Sicilian!" Mr. Romano slammed his fist on the table.

Him and that temper of his.

He was my uncle—the only surviving brother my father had left. Well… my father had died a long time ago.

"I also want to know," Lady Trixie added calmly, though the tension in her voice was obvious. "We all know that being in Sicily, the nearest mafia group capable of taking over would be the Black Crown. Valentino's organization."

She was my aunt, the youngest sibling of my father.

"They'll definitely aim for the throne if we don't hand it over willingly," Luca said. He rose from his chair and walked over to the window, staring out into the night. He took a slow sip of his scotch before glancing back at me.

"Daemon… what's the way forward?"

I remained seated, relaxed in my chair. The first two buttons of my shirt were undone, and my leg rested lazily over the other.

"I have someone working on it," I replied coolly, adjusting my dark shades.

"You always say that!" Mariano snapped. "And you'll keep saying it until they rip the power right out of your hands!"

He was furious. But then again… everyone in the room was.

Truth be told, I was the one who should have been the most restless. If things went wrong, I'd be the one falling the hardest.

"Take off those damn shades," my uncle ordered.

I ignored him.

"I said take those fu—"

In a flash, I pulled out my gun and aimed it straight at him.

I didn't pull the trigger.

Not yet.

"You better watch how you talk to me, you fat fucking fool," I growled, my voice low and dangerous.

Sometimes these idiots forgot who I was.

They thought that just because I listened to their advice, they could talk to me however they pleased.

That mistake needed correcting.

"What do you fuckers take me for?" I chuckled darkly. "You think because I smile at your miserable faces, you can talk to me the way you talk to your backyard servants?"

I slowly pointed the gun at each one of them.

One by one.

"I think I need to reintroduce myself."

My voice dropped into something colder.

"Daemonikai Arretas… your motherfucking leader."

Rage simmered beneath my skin. I could kill every single one of them in this room, and nothing would happen to me.

Not a damn thing.

I inhaled slowly and pulled a cigar from my pocket.

Without being asked, Luca stepped forward and lit it for me.

My phone chimed.

I glanced at the screen, crossing my fingers slightly.

After reading the message, a slow smile crept across my face.

Finally.

"Get the fuck out of my office," I barked.

Chairs scraped across the floor as they all stood and quickly left the room.

The moment the door closed behind them, the smile on my face widened.

The game had just begun.
