Kael looked exactly the same as he always did.
Controlled.
Unmoved.
But something about the way he watched Iren now felt…
Different.
More focused.
Like the variables had shifted again. And this time
Kael was paying closer attention.
The elevator ride to the penthouse was quiet.
Not uncomfortable.
Just… thoughtful.
Iren leaned lightly against the back wall, hands tucked into the pockets of his jacket while the numbers above the door ticked upward one floor at a time.
Beside him, Kael stood with his usual posture straight, composed, completely controlled.
But Iren noticed something new.
Kael's attention hadn't drifted away like it normally did after an event.
Usually, once they returned from a public engagement, Kael shifted back into that distant, logistical mode. His mind moved immediately to schedules, meetings, tomorrow's priorities.
Tonight
He was still observing.
Still present.
The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.
