Chapter 12 - Chapter 10 — The Trial Begins

Part I — The First Strike

I couldn't forget the figure.

Even after the sun disappeared beyond the mountains, the image remained in my mind.

A distant silhouette.

Watching.

Then gone.

No sound.

No movement.

Nothing I could use to prove it had ever been there.

Yet I knew what I had felt.

Someone had been watching.

I lay awake for most of the night, staring at the ceiling.

Who?

Why?

Had they been watching me?

My family?

The clan?

Or had I simply noticed something that had nothing to do with me?

I didn't know.

And I disliked not knowing.

I closed my eyes.

The sensation returned.

That brief pressure in the air.

That strange reaction from my instincts.

Then the system's warning.

> [Environmental Stability: Declining]

[External Intent Density: Rising]

I opened my eyes again.

Whatever was happening outside the clan had not reached us yet.

But it was moving.

That much I was certain of.

A knock sounded at the door.

I sat up.

Before I could answer, the door opened.

Azharyon stood there.

"You're awake."

"I noticed."

He frowned slightly.

"You haven't slept?"

"Not much."

"Why?"

I looked at him.

For a moment, I considered telling him.

About the watcher.

The feeling.

The system.

Then I decided against it.

"I couldn't sleep."

Azharyon studied me.

He knew when I was hiding something.

But he didn't press.

Instead, he stepped aside.

"Come on."

"Where?"

"Training grounds."

I stared at him.

"Now?"

"Now."

There was something different in his voice.

I got out of bed.

As we walked through the corridors, I noticed the same thing I'd noticed the previous evening.

The clan was awake earlier than usual.

Guards stood at positions they normally didn't occupy.

Several doors were open.

Others were sealed.

And the people we passed were quieter than usual.

Azharyon noticed me looking.

"Something wrong?"

"Maybe."

He glanced at me.

"Maybe?"

"Nothing."

He shook his head.

"You think too much."

"Someone has to."

He laughed quietly.

But it didn't last.

We reached the outer training grounds.

Several familiar figures were already there.

Raivharyx.

Thundraryx.

Lunaryth.

Zephyrax.

Caelvhar.

Others stood farther behind them.

They weren't talking.

That was strange.

These training sessions were usually loud.

Someone always challenged someone else.

Someone always complained.

Today—

Silence.

Azharyon stopped.

I looked around.

"What's going on?"

No immediate answer.

Then one of the older warriors stepped forward.

"Today's training will be different."

"How?"

"You'll find out inside."

I looked toward the massive doors.

Something about that answer bothered me.

"Who decided this?"

The warrior didn't answer.

Azharyon started walking.

I followed.

The doors opened.

Cold air brushed across my face.

I stepped inside.

The doors closed behind us.

CLANG.

The sound echoed through the chamber.

I turned.

The massive doors had already sealed.

Runes began illuminating across the walls.

One.

Two.

Ten.

Then hundreds.

A low vibration passed through the floor.

The chamber was waking up.

I felt the energy gathering around me.

Controlled.

Dense.

Ancient.

My eyes narrowed.

The system appeared.

> [Status]

Bloodline: 100% — SEALED

Accessible Power: 0.5%

I stared at the numbers.

Unchanged.

Exactly as they had been.

My bloodline remained completely sealed.

Nothing had broken through.

Nothing had awakened.

Whatever happened today, I would have to face it with what I already had.

Azharyon walked toward the center.

I followed.

He stopped.

I stopped opposite him.

"What's the test?"

He looked at me.

"Your ability to adapt."

I raised an eyebrow.

"To what?"

His answer came quietly.

"Pressure."

The floor suddenly dropped.

Not physically.

The gravity changed.

BOOOOOOM!

My knees buckled.

The pressure slammed into my body.

I caught myself before falling.

My breathing tightened.

The air felt heavier.

Azharyon remained standing.

So did the others.

I adjusted my stance.

The pressure increased again.

BOOM.

My feet sank slightly into the floor.

I inhaled.

Slowly.

Then released the breath.

Controlled.

The pressure remained.

But I could handle it.

For now.

Azharyon rolled his shoulders.

"Ready?"

"No."

He smiled.

"Good."

Then he vanished.

My instincts screamed.

I moved.

BOOM!

His fist tore through the space where my head had been.

The shockwave slammed into the wall behind me.

Stone exploded.

I landed several meters away.

My eyes narrowed.

Too fast.

He was already moving again.

Right side.

I turned.

His fist came toward my ribs.

I blocked.

BAM!

Pain shot through my arm.

The impact pushed me sideways.

Before I could recover—

His knee came up.

I twisted.

The strike passed my side.

I countered with my palm.

Azharyon shifted.

My hand missed his chest by inches.

His elbow came down.

I raised my arm.

BOOM!

The impact drove me toward the ground.

I twisted before landing.

One hand touched the floor.

I pushed off.

Azharyon followed immediately.

No pause.

No hesitation.

Punch.

Dodge.

Kick.

Block.

Elbow.

Step.

Counter.

Every movement came faster than the last.

This wasn't the Azharyon I raced with.

This wasn't my brother laughing beside me.

This was a warrior.

And he wasn't trying to make me look good.

He was trying to find my limit.

Another punch came.

I watched his shoulders.

His right side shifted.

I moved before his fist was fully extended.

The attack passed my cheek.

I stepped inside.

Palm.

He blocked.

Low kick.

He moved.

I changed direction.

Elbow.

THUD!

My strike connected with his ribs.

Azharyon slid backward.

Half a step.

He looked down.

Then at me.

A smile appeared.

"Well played."

The gravity increased.

BOOOOOOM!

My entire body dropped.

My muscles tightened.

The pressure pressed against my lungs.

I gritted my teeth.

The system appeared.

> [Combat Load Increasing]

[Adaptive Response: Active]

[Accessible Power Stability: Confirmed]

My eyes narrowed.

So this was part of the test.

Not simply fighting Azharyon.

The chamber itself was changing.

Watching.

Measuring.

I lowered my center of gravity.

The pressure was heavier now.

Every unnecessary movement cost more.

So I stopped wasting movement.

My breathing slowed.

My stance became smaller.

More stable.

Azharyon attacked.

I didn't meet his strength.

I redirected it.

He punched.

I shifted.

His elbow followed.

I ducked.

His knee came.

I moved just enough.

The attack missed.

I countered.

Palm.

He blocked.

But this time—

I didn't stop.

I turned.

Changed direction.

Low strike.

Azharyon adjusted.

I followed the adjustment.

Elbow.

He caught it.

Our eyes met.

For a moment—

Neither of us moved.

Then Azharyon smiled.

"You're learning."

"So are you."

His smile widened.

Then he pushed off the ground.

BOOM!

He crossed the distance instantly.

I raised my guard.

His fist collided with it.

CRACK!

Pain tore through my arms.

I was thrown backward.

I hit the floor.

Hard.

The impact sent a shock through my spine.

For a second, the world blurred.

I tasted blood.

I spat it onto the floor.

Then stood.

Azharyon watched.

"You're hurt."

"I noticed."

"You can stop."

I looked at him.

"No."

His expression changed.

Not anger.

Approval.

The gravity increased again.

BOOOOOOM!

The chamber shook.

Cracks spread beneath my feet before the runes sealed them.

My muscles screamed.

My breathing became heavier.

But something strange happened.

The pressure that had felt unbearable moments ago—

was becoming familiar.

My body was adjusting.

Not becoming stronger.

Adjusting.

The system confirmed it.

> [Adaptive Synchronization: +0.02%]

I stared at the message.

So that's what this was.

The more pressure I endured—

the more efficiently my body responded.

I stopped fighting the gravity.

I moved with it.

Azharyon attacked.

I stepped.

He changed direction.

I followed.

His fist came.

I tilted my head.

His knee rose.

I shifted.

His elbow came.

I ducked.

Then—

I countered.

THUD!

My palm struck his chest.

Azharyon moved backward.

This time—

More than half a step.

The chamber became silent.

He looked at me.

I looked at him.

Something had changed.

Not my bloodline.

Not my accessible power.

Those numbers remained the same.

100% sealed.

0.5% accessible.

But I was no longer fighting the same way.

I was beginning to understand the pressure.

The timing.

The movement.

The rhythm.

And Azharyon understood it too.

His expression slowly became serious.

He stepped backward.

Then—

His presence changed.

The air around him became heavier.

My instincts reacted immediately.

Danger.

Azharyon lowered his stance.

The playful brother from earlier was gone.

He looked at me like a warrior looking at another warrior.

"Good."

The runes across the chamber suddenly flared.

CLANG!

The doors sealed tighter.

The gravity engine roared.

My feet sank into the floor.

Azharyon's eyes remained fixed on mine.

"You adapted to the first pressure."

He took one step forward.

"Now…"

Another.

The chamber trembled.

"…adapt to this."

He vanished.

This time—

I moved first.

BOOM!

Our fists collided.

The shockwave exploded through the chamber.

And I finally understood.

The fight hadn't truly begun until now.
