Sunagakure's decision to take the initiative and march across the Land of Rivers sent ripples through the Ninja World like a stone stirring a thousand waves. But just as Elder Chiyo led the main force to squeeze Konoha's defense line, a disaster from the northwest poured like ice water into the Kazekage's office.
"Report! Urgent intelligence! Iwagakure Jōnin Kitsuchi leads an elite unit across the northern border! Several posts have fallen, and the Rock Ninja are pushing into our heartland!"
The messenger, blood-stained and panting, presented the scroll. Fourth Kazekage Rasa snatched it, his face darkening until he slammed a fist onto his desk. "Ōnoki… you old fox!"
Rasa had hoped to profit while Konoha scrambled, but Iwagakure's reaction was ruthless—striking at the heart of the desert while the village was hollowed out. This was the classic "besiege-Wei-to-rescue-Zhao" strategy. Rasa could not recall Chiyo's army in time, so he looked at his roster and found the one name capable of steadying the northern front.
"Appoint Pakura overall commander of the northern front! Use the desert terrain to build layered defenses and drive the invaders back at any cost!"
Pakura of the Scorch Release became Suna's firefighter, racing into the dunes to meet Kitsuchi's elites. Meanwhile, at the Land of Rivers front, Elder Chiyo received the news and instantly grasped the stakes. "Rasa is under immense pressure… we must press harder here so Konoha cannot spare forces."
She issued a brutal command: "Crush all resistance in the Land of Rivers within three days. Then, the entire army strikes straight into the Land of Fire!"
The Sunagakure army surged like a grindstone. Within this machine, the Sandstorm Squad functioned as a nimble, elite cog. Captain Iryō, Lucado, and Xu provided the core strength, while Sayo and his Mirage became a phantom on the battlefield.
Sayo matured rapidly. He used the Mirage's mobility to evacuate wounded, sabotage supply lines, and air-drop strike teams. His Magnet Release and spider puppets screened the battlefield, turning him into a commander in his own right.
War's cruelty stripped away his innocence. In the northern desert, Pakura's Scorch Release danced with the sands. In the east, Chiyo's vanguard finally caught sight of the Land of Fire border.
The flames of the Third Great Ninja War had engulfed the continent. Kumogakure faced Minato in the northeast, the Hidden Mist was held by Shisui in the southeast, and Iwagakure battled the Toad Sage Jiraiya in the north. Now, riding the tide, the Sandstorm Squad crossed the final border and set foot on Fire Country soil.
Awaiting them was Konoha's fiercer resistance and the darkest chapters of the war.
