Chapter 32 - Chapter 31: forgotten memories

Inside a dimly lit warehouse, everyone had regrouped. The heavy doors creaked open, and the police commissioner walked in with exaggerated confidence, clapping his hands lightly as if he owned the place.

"Hey… hey, Bunty," he said with a greedy grin. "Where is my money? Give me… give me."

Bunty looked at him and let out a soft chuckle.

"Yeah… take it. It's all yours."

As he spoke, he casually sliced through a thick rope tied to a massive cube of tightly packed cash.

The moment the rope snapped—

THUD!

The entire mountain of money collapsed straight onto the commissioner. The sheer weight crushed him instantly, leaving no room for even a scream.

For a brief second, silence filled the warehouse.

Then Bunty slowly walked up to the heap of cash, shaking his head in mock pity.

"Poor guy… he wanted to take the money," he said, sighing dramatically, "but couldn't handle its weight."

He turned toward his team and asked with a faint smile,

"Do you know what we learned from this?"

No one answered.

Bunty sighed again. "You guys are really boring."

Then his smile widened.

"What we learned is… stealing money is easy. Carrying it… is the real challenge."

---

He straightened up and began discussing the next move.

"Koti will take the money to the port. From there, it goes to Europe by sea. I'll take a flight… and the rest of you will follow—"

Before he could finish, a muffled noise interrupted him.

Nearby, a girl tied to a chair struggled violently. Her mouth was gagged, yet she tried desperately to make noise.

Bunty glanced at her briefly.

"For safety, we'll take her along through the port route," he continued. "Mallika and Aarav will handle that. The rest of you move with the money."

Just then, his phone rang.

It was the passport agent.

As Bunty listened, his expression darkened.

The passports weren't ready.

That meant… no flights.

He slammed the phone to the ground in frustration.

---

"Change of plan," he said coldly.

"Koti takes the money to the port. We all leave from there."

Then his gaze shifted to the bound girl.

"But Veer will interfere."

He looked at Mallika and began signing,

"You'll take her to the lighthouse. Use her to distract Veer. And when the first light turns on…"

His eyes turned deadly.

"Kill her… if I don't call."

---

Aarav raised his hand calmly and signed,

"I'll go with Mallika."

Bunty nodded. "Fine."

---

Aarav pulled Mallika aside into a corner and quickly signed,

"Bunty is going to eliminate us."

Mallika frowned and replied,

"No. He would never kill us."

Aarav's expression hardened.

"Why are you so sure? He killed his father… his partners at the bank… even his own brother."

Mallika responded immediately,

"Veer killed his brother."

Aarav shook his head.

"Did you see it yourself? Bunty told us that story. He killed the minister… the commissioner… everyone. Why do you think we're different?"

He paused, then signed more firmly,

"We're just bait. Can't you see that?"

Mallika hesitated. Her eyes shifted toward the bound girl… then back to Aarav.

"So what do you suggest?" she asked.

Aarav replied,

"We wait. If Bunty fails… then we negotiate with Veer. We trade her… for our safety."

Mallika thought for a moment… then slowly nodded.

---

Soon after, everything split into motion.

Aarav and Mallika took Veer's sister in a separate car and drove off.

Koti left with the money truck, followed by three empty decoy trucks.

Bunty departed with his men in three different vehicles.

---

Inside the car, Aarav sat in the driver's seat.

Without hesitation, he called his father and connected the phone to the car's Bluetooth speaker.

Veer's sister, sitting in the back, could hear everything clearly.

Mallika, however, remained unaware—lost in silence.

---

The call connected.

"What's the status, young man?" came a firm voice.

Aarav replied in a steady tone,

"The money is with Bunty. Loaded in a truck. It just entered the highway."

There was a brief pause.

Then came the response,

"This is your test. What are you going to do?"

Aarav's eyes sharpened.

"I have a candidate," he said. "Veer Singh. B.Tech graduate in Computer Science. Currently chasing the money."

On the other end, surprise was evident.

"You mean… the sole witness of this robbery case?"

Aarav casually replied,

"Yes. He has a sharp and analytical mind. He can become a great asset to our agency. So how about we make a bet? If he manages to close Bunty's case along with recovering the money… then you'll recruit him."

A brief silence came from the other side before the voice responded,

"Aarav… this was your test."

Aarav leaned back in his seat and answered calmly,

"And I already cleared it. I found the money, the robbers, all the evidence… and even a suitable candidate for the agency."

The man on the call sighed.

"Yeah, but you let his sister hear all this. Our agency is supposed to remain secretive."

A faint smile appeared on Aarav's face.

"I'm sure his sister can keep secrets."

As he said that, he glanced at the rearview mirror. Veera was staring at him in complete shock. Aarav casually winked at her. Embarrassed, she immediately turned her face toward the window.

The voice on the phone spoke again,

"What about that deaf girl?"

Aarav looked toward Mallika before replying coldly,

"She's still a criminal. Arrest her like any normal criminal."

"But aren't you close to her?"

"Don't let her appearance fool you," Aarav said calmly. "She's a ruthless character."

---

Soon, the car arrived near the lighthouse.

The sea waves crashed violently against the rocks below while the rotating beam of the lighthouse swept across the dark night sky.

After waiting for some time, Aarav noticed that Mallika was growing anxious.

Finally, she grabbed Veera's arm and started dragging her toward the lighthouse.

Aarav let out a long sigh.

"So in the end… she still chose Bunty's side," he murmured. "Maybe because of the plot… or maybe because she wanted to."

The next second—

Thak!

Aarav struck the back of Mallika's neck with perfect precision, instantly knocking her unconscious.

Mallika collapsed onto the ground.

---

Aarav then stepped toward Veera and removed the cloth tied around her mouth before untying her hands.

The moment she was free—

Slap!

Veera smacked him across the face and immediately started punching his chest repeatedly.

"You heartless idiot!" she shouted. "Do you have any idea how scared I was?!"

Aarav blinked in confusion.

"Excuse me… I think we're meeting for the first time, right?"

Veera stared at him in disbelief.

"How can you forget me? Don't you remember? We used to go to school together! Your family lived next to ours!"

"Neighbors…?" Aarav muttered.

Then suddenly—

A forgotten memory surfaced deep inside his mind.

---

Back then, Aarav's family used to live in a small rented house before shifting into an apartment.

In that neighborhood, there was a girl around his age.

Veera.

They used to go to school together every day. They were inseparable childhood friends.

And before moving away, little Veera had proudly pointed at him and declared,

"Remember this! In the future, you're going to become my boyfriend!"

Young Aarav had puffed up his chest confidently and replied,

"I promise! I won't even look at another girl besides you!"

---

As the memory returned, Aarav's eyes widened.

"Veera…?"

The moment she heard her name from his lips, Veera immediately threw herself into his arms and hugged him tightly.

Aarav stood there awkwardly while thinking,

This happened long before my memories started returning…

Then curiosity appeared on his face.

"But how did you recognize me?" he asked.

Veera pointed toward the bracelet on his wrist.

"Because of that bracelet. Don't you remember? I gave it to you."

Aarav looked down immediately.

On the back of the bracelet, the name Veera was engraved.

Veera also lifted her own wrist, showing a matching bracelet with Aarav written on it.

---

Aarav scratched his head awkwardly.

"Veera… childhood promises are a different thing…"

Veera narrowed her eyes dangerously.

"So? Don't tell me you already got a girlfriend?"

Aarav quickly shook his head.

"No, I didn't! It's just… I don't remember much from the past. There's some memory issue. I lost parts of my memory after an accident."

The moment she heard that, Veera's expression softened completely.

Still hugging him tightly, she whispered,

"Okay… then I'll help you remember everything."

---

Just then, the sound of helicopter blades echoed across the area.

A helicopter descended nearby.

Aarav glanced toward it and sighed.

"Looks like your brother is here."

Veera immediately puffed her cheeks and complained,

"I don't want to go."

Aarav facepalmed.

"Fine. Then I'm leaving."

The moment he tried to move, Veera instantly grabbed his arm tightly.

"Hey! Wait! Where are you going? I'm not leaving. You'll take me to them."

Aarav glanced at unconscious Mallika lying nearby and sighed once again.

---

A few moments later, the helicopter landed completely.

Commissioner Prabhakar and Veer stepped out.

Veer immediately picked up binoculars and scanned the area.

Then he froze.

In the distance, Aarav was casually waving at him.

And beside him—

Veera was tightly clinging to Aarav's chest while holding his arm possessively.

Veer's jaw almost dropped.

---

The two quickly approached them.

But even after they arrived, Veera still refused to let go of Aarav.

Veer awkwardly cleared his throat.

"Ahem… hello, Veera. I came here to save you."

Without moving away from Aarav, Veera replied proudly,

"I don't need you to save me. My boyfriend is enough."

"Boyfriend?!" Veer shouted in disbelief before looking toward Aarav. "Wait… aren't you that guy from the club that day?"

Aarav scratched his head awkwardly.

"Yeah… that was me."

Veer pointed at him dramatically.

"Veera! This guy is a complete gambler! He was betting with me at the club!"

Veera instantly shot back,

"Yeah? And where were you at that time?"

Veer got stuck immediately.

"But… he's not a good guy!"

Veera crossed her arms stubbornly.

"I don't care. He's my boyfriend now, and I'm going to marry him."

The moment those words came out—

Both Aarav and Veer froze with their mouths wide open.

Commissioner Prabhakar burst out laughing.

"Never thought anyone could overpower Veer… but it turns out his own sister was the one."

And just like that—

The movie ended.

---

But Aarav's story… did not.

Although it was difficult, he somehow managed to clear up the entire situation. Naturally, he hid both his own involvement and his connection with Bunty's gang.

Surprisingly, Veera also kept quiet and never exposed him.

However, there was one new problem now—

Veera had become stubborn about joining the RAI agency as well.

In the end, Aarav could only nod helplessly and temporarily agree… just to calm her down.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, Venkatesh and his team had also received intel that the archaeologist had escaped to India. Along with him, the terrorist group pursuing him had already entered the country as well.

Which meant… Venkatesh's mission overseas had come to an abrupt end.

He and his team immediately prepared to return to India.

---

Far away from all of this, deep inside a dark jungle, a lone girl was fighting against several masked gunmen.

She was dressed entirely in black.

A mask covered her face, while her body was wrapped in a skin-tight combat suit filled with hidden weapons and unknown devices. Every movement of hers was sharp, precise, and deadly.

The dense forest echoed with gunfire.

Suddenly—

Bang!

A bullet grazed past her arm, tearing through the fabric and drawing blood.

But despite the injury, she didn't stop running.

Instead, she accelerated deeper into the forest.

The next second, she darted behind a tree—

And vanished.

---

The five masked men chasing her immediately stopped moving.

Their eyes scanned the darkness carefully while their ears focused on even the slightest disturbance.

The jungle had suddenly become terrifyingly silent.

Then—

One of the masked men felt a hand grab his head from behind.

Before he could react—

Crack!

His neck twisted unnaturally, and his body collapsed lifelessly onto the ground.

The mysterious girl disappeared into the darkness once again.

A moment later, a silenced gunshot echoed softly through the trees.

Pfft!

Another masked man fell, a bullet hole through his forehead.

Now only three remained.

---

The surviving men immediately became alert.

Using the darkness to their advantage, they silently climbed onto the trees without making a sound.

From above, they carefully listened for movement.

Then suddenly—

A faint noise came from one direction.

The three instantly rushed toward it.

But the moment one of them stepped onto a thick branch—

His eyes widened in horror.

Attached beneath it… was a grenade trap.

For a split second, his soul trembled in fear.

Then—

BOOOOM!

A fiery explosion erupted in the middle of the forest.

The blast shook nearby trees violently.

Now only two masked men remained alive.

---

The mysterious girl suddenly emerged from the darkness and fired at one of them using a silenced pistol.

But the man dodged instantly and charged toward her instead.

Seeing this, the girl turned and began running again.

The two masked men continuously fired at her while chasing through the forest.

She dodged desperately—sometimes using trees as cover, sometimes rolling across the ground, sometimes leaping through branches.

But eventually—

Two bullets struck her.

One pierced her leg.

Another hit her in the back.

Her body staggered violently.

Her vision blurred.

She was about to collapse unconscious.

But suddenly—

Her veins pulsed intensely.

A massive adrenaline rush exploded through her body.

The next moment, she abruptly turned around and appeared right in front of the two masked men.

Before they could even react—

Pfft!

Pfft!

Two bullets pierced their foreheads instantly.

Their bodies dropped lifelessly onto the ground.

---

The girl swayed weakly.

Her breathing became heavy.

Her eyelids slowly started closing.

Everything around her became blurry.

And just before she could fall onto the ground—

Someone caught her.

The person holding her also appeared to be a girl. She too wore a mask.

The newcomer glanced at the unconscious assassin in her arms before removing her own mask casually.

It was none other than Anya D'Souza—Vanshika's daughter.

Anya looked around at the destroyed battlefield and sighed helplessly.

"I thought training in the Forest of Dead would be peaceful…" she muttered. "But obstacles showed up the moment I arrived."

Then she looked down at the injured girl in her arms.

"But… she's got guts."

With that, Anya effortlessly lifted the unconscious girl into her arms and disappeared into the depths of the forest.
