Severine knew exactly where Isabella's burial ground was.
The cemetery was close to the nursing home, a place Isabella had reserved for herself long ago.
This wasn't the family ground where all the Vales were supposed to be buried.
Even in her final moments, she was hell-bent on defying everyone who had been against any of her actions. Marriage, children, shares, nothing was spared.
Severine had no intention of going there.
At least, not until Victor asked her to come along the very next morning.
As a good and diligent student, it was easier for her to get extra leave. Professors, after knowing her situation, were eager to offer her a helping hand.
Perhaps it came with the job description. Teachers, Severine mused, tended to have a hero complex, just as doctors had a god-complex.
"Do you need a few more days to adjust?" the head of the department asked her, his eyes squinting behind the pair of spectacles.
"No, Professor. This is enough. Thank you."
