Chapter 220 - Chapter 220 Best Player in the Portuguese U17 League

In order to get closer to Anne Hathaway, Victoria Beckham specifically reminded her to stay away from Lothar Matthäus—according to Victoria, the guy was bad news.

Later, when Hathaway was on the phone with Kai, she mentioned it. To her surprise, Kai already knew all about Matthäus. The two of them ended up roasting the old bastard together without holding back.

Matthäus: You stole my Champions League and now you're trash-talking me behind my back too?

On May 20th, the penultimate round of the Portuguese U17 League kicked off.

Kai and Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the Alcochete training base to cheer for their former teammates.

Sporting Lisbon U17 fell behind early.

However, with Kai repeatedly bombing down the right flank—creating chaos and winning corner after corner—the team finally found a breakthrough. From one of those set pieces, center-back Shao Jiawei rose high and powered in a header to equalize.

Miguel Veloso dominated midfield, leading the match in interceptions. Time and again, he broke up dangerous plays and launched counterattacks.

In the final moments, Hao Junmin delivered a perfectly weighted through ball, and Yu Shihao slotted it home.

Sporting Lisbon U17 secured the win and clinched the Portuguese U17 League title one round ahead of schedule.

Kai and Cristiano Ronaldo joined the post-match celebrations, even stepping into the championship photo wearing their own jerseys.

Teammates urged Kai to lift the trophy, but he refused.

He had already left the team six months ago.

This title belonged to them.

He wasn't the main hero here.

During the post-match interview, Kai made his stance even clearer:

"This team is excellent. They fully deserve this trophy."

"Some people say I'm the biggest contributor, but I strongly disagree. I only played during the regional stage. The North-South divisions and the championship rounds were much harder—and far more important."

"So I'm grateful the club invited me back to watch this match and stand on the podium. But I know very well that this trophy belongs to them."

"I'm proud of every single one of them—Wu Xudong, Yu Shihao, Hao Junmin, Shao Jiawei, Veloso, Duarte… every one of them has a bright future."

The reporters praised Kai's humility and perspective.

At the same time, cameras kept flashing—focused not on the team trophy, but on the "Portuguese U17 League Best Player" award in Kai's hands.

That's right.

Even after only playing half a season, Kai had won the league's most important individual award.

And it might not stop there.

If in the final round, the second-place scorer failed to score a hat-trick and the runner-up in assists didn't deliver four assists in one game, then Kai would also finish as both top scorer and assist leader.

In just half a season, he had scored 25 goals and provided 19 assists.

He had outperformed players who had played the full year.

After the awards ceremony, Bola News slammed Kai:

"Kai's numbers look impressive, but they all came during the regional stage. He didn't record a single goal or assist in the North-South divisions or the championship rounds. What right does he have to win Best Player?"

The statement caused quite a stir.

Many fans who hadn't watched the matches started nodding along.

Then Record fired back mercilessly:

"He has no goals or assists in those stages because he didn't play them. He transferred in the winter window. If he had stayed in the U17 league, he'd have over 50 goals and 40 assists by now!"

"Even in the far more competitive Portuguese League, his second-half stats are outrageous—35 goals and 36 assists. And you're asking why he deserves the award?"

Bola doubled down:

"I've never heard of someone winning Best Player after playing only half a season—especially just the first half."

Record responded immediately:

"Really? Sporting Lisbon U17 voted Kai as their own Best Player. Do you think the players themselves understand the team better than you—or not?"

"If Sporting Lisbon hadn't won the title, maybe there'd be some debate. But they did win it—and Kai absolutely deserves the award."

Soon, players from the U17 squad began speaking out one after another.

Wu Xudong, the all-around right-sided player:

"Of course Brother Kai should be Player of the Season. He carried us through the hardest period and gave us not just wins—but something even more important… courage!"

Midfield rising star Hao Junmin:

"Kai is our leader. Even after he left, he sent messages before every match to encourage us. He never forgot about us, even when he was facing tougher challenges himself."

Best U17 center-back Shao Jiawei:

"Our tactics this season were designed by Coach Triguera and Brother Kai at the start. Everything we achieved comes from that foundation!"

Yu Shihao, second top scorer for the team:

"Before Kai transferred, the media already said his first-half performance was enough for Best Player. Now the officials just agreed—and suddenly it's controversial? I don't get why Bola is making such a stupid argument."

Miguel Veloso, league interception leader:

"Isn't Bola's circulation dropping like crazy? I heard the only place you can reliably find it now is in the toilet. And this kind of outlet thinks it has the right to question Kai—the guy leading Moreirense toward promotion?"

Bola basically humiliated itself and got torn apart by players and media alike.

But one person took that article very seriously.

A young boy from Madeira, Portugal, born in February 1985, quietly cut out the Bola article and kept it in his diary.

He believed the article was right.

Kai shouldn't be Best Player.

If someone who played half a season could win it, then why not someone who played just one game?

From an efficiency standpoint, that player had a far better scoring rate than Kai.

Therefore, the true Best Player of the Portuguese U17 League… should be him.

Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Cristiano Ronaldo! Let's go! Why the hell are you still hiding in your room?"

Kai's voice came from outside the door.

Ronaldo hurriedly shoved his diary under the bed and walked out like nothing happened.

"Thanks to your aunt for letting me stay here. After this season, we can come back again."

Kai shook his head.

"Cristiano Ronaldo… you're not a kid anymore. It's not really appropriate for you to keep living at my place."

"You should rent your own place next season. Somewhere better."

"...You get what I mean, right?"

Cristiano Ronaldo froze.

For a moment, he felt a chill run down his spine.

He swore—he had never imagined in his life that Kai would say something like that to him.
