The stadium was completely packed today.
More than 50,000 fans wore uniform green-and-white jerseys.
Ninety-nine point ninety-nine percent of them were Sporting Lisbon shirts.
Even if someone wore a Moreirense jersey, you could barely tell—the designs were just too similar.
This match, played at Sporting Lisbon's home ground, would also give Moreirense a share of the ticket revenue.
Sporting Lisbon wore their classic green-and-white stripes.
Moreirense, on the other hand, went with their away kit—a blue jersey.
Since this was already the semi-finals, Sporting Lisbon took it seriously and fielded almost their full-strength lineup.
The front three, from left to right, were Kwame Ayew, Jardel, and Ricardo Quaresma.
The latter two needed no introduction. One was the Portuguese league's Golden Boot winner for two consecutive seasons—very likely heading for a third. The other was a rising superstar hyped to the skies.
Even Kwame Ayew wasn't some nobody.
His nephews—André Ayew and Jordan Ayew—would go on to become key players in Europe's top leagues, representing Ghana on the international stage.
In the 2022 World Cup, André Ayew even equalized against Portugal in the group stage, putting massive pressure on them—only for Portugal to retake the lead shortly after he was subbed off, leaving him standing there stiff-faced like a meme waiting to happen.
Sporting Lisbon's midfield featured Hugo Viana, who had just returned from injury and was still finding his rhythm, alongside defensive midfielder Delfim and the versatile Pedro Barbosa.
Under Quaresma's spotlight, Viana didn't seem that impressive—but in reality, becoming a starting midfielder for a Portuguese giant at his age was already insane.
Once Quaresma was sold in the summer, the club planned to pour all their resources into developing Viana.
They even branded him as Sporting Lisbon's own "Rui Costa"!
At the back, from left to right: Jorge, Marcos, Roberto Luís, and Abdullilah.
Jorge's full name was ridiculously long—no one bothered saying it.
Marcos had transferred from PSV this season and was finally having his breakthrough at Sporting Lisbon after being just a rotation player before.
In goal stood Peter Schmeichel, the Danish national legend signed from Manchester United.
Without a doubt, he was the most decorated and highest-level player in the entire squad.
Before kickoff, Triguera laid out detailed tactical plans against Sporting Lisbon.
They studied the setup used against Gondomar under Augustus. The idea was simple: completely cut off Jardel from the team, deny him service, and neutralize the most lethal striker in the league.
When both teams walked onto the pitch, the fans erupted in cheers.
Whether it was Sporting Lisbon players or Moreirense players, they received warm applause.
On one hand, in the fans' eyes, Moreirense was practically Sporting Lisbon's second team.
Similar jerseys, shared players from the academy—it was basically family.
On the other hand, nobody seriously believed Moreirense could cause any trouble.
When people feel comfortable, they tend to be generous.
Fans even shouted, "Cristiano Ronaldo! Ronaldo!" and "Kai! Kai!" in a friendly tone.
This didn't feel like a tense semi-final at all.
More like a casual friendly—where winning didn't matter.
Friendship first, competition second.
Beep!
The whistle blew. The match officially began.
After a brief, shaky opening of three or four minutes, Sporting Lisbon took control of possession.
That was expected—their overall quality was simply higher.
Moreirense quickly dropped back into a defensive shape.
If they couldn't control the ball, they would defend compactly—but aggressively, actively pressing whenever possible.
Outmatched—but not helpless.
In the 4th minute, Viana, looking sharp after recovery, delivered a brilliant through ball.
Macedo was completely split open by the pass.
Killop rushed in to intercept early, but Jardel smashed into him and sent him flying.
As a center-back, Killop got completely bullied.
No surprise—he was still young, barely at the level of a Portuguese top-flight defender.
Meanwhile, Jardel was the league's deadliest striker.
That gap? Brutal.
Anyone who's played football knows—young guys, even if strong, often get wrecked by experienced grown men. It's just… different.
Luckily—
Fonte stepped in at the perfect moment and poked the ball away from Jardel's feet.
Otherwise, it would've been a clean shot on goal.
Even with heavy marking, Jardel still looked dangerous as hell.
That alone forced Moreirense to tighten their focus on him even more.
Macedo, the defensive midfielder, practically dropped into center-back to shadow Jardel.
7th minute.
Moreirense finally got a rare attacking chance.
Kai sent a pass forward to find Ronaldo, who had dropped deep.
After receiving it, Cristiano Ronaldo exploded forward, turning it into a full-on sprint duel with right-back Abdullilah.
He needed to test the defender first—figure out his level before deciding how to attack next.
Abdullilah wasn't slow either.
They raced from midfield into the final third, Ronaldo only half a body ahead.
Cross? Possible.
Cut inside? Not easy.
This guy had pace.
Zhi!
Ronaldo suddenly slowed down and flicked the ball with his heel—changing direction instantly.
Abdullilah got sent flying.
Clean.
Now Ronaldo had the initiative.
He burst into the penalty area, facing Roberto Luís, and started pulling off stepovers.
Since Ronaldo was already inside the box, Luís didn't dare dive in recklessly.
But Ronaldo wasn't advancing either—just cycling over the ball—so Luís stayed calm.
Meanwhile, Abdullilah scrambled back up and rushed over to help.
Other defenders were closing in too.
At this rate, all those fancy stepovers would just reduce Ronaldo's chances of scoring.
Then—
Ronaldo suddenly shifted the ball to the right, opening up space and angle, and struck from a tight angle.
Luís threw his leg out, hands behind his back, trying to block.
Schmeichel adjusted his position instantly, ready to save.
But then—
He realized something was off.
That shot… was too weak.
It wasn't a shot at all—it was a fake!
"Cristiano Ronaldo shoots—no! It's a feint! He faked with his right, and before even landing, he lifted it with his left—"
"Far post—Flávio!"
"GOAL! Flávio heads it in! Completely unmarked! Nobody saw him—except Ronaldo!"
"That pass… that reminds me of Kai!"
"Cristiano Ronaldo has been getting smarter and smarter in this league—his short passing is finally showing some real brains!"
