~Jade's POV~
I felt the shift immediately, even before I heard his steps retreating. When I finally glanced back, he was already walking away, and for the first time since I met him, Drake did not look back or chase me.
Later that day, I sat in Xavier's class with my notebook open in front of me, even though I had barely written anything.
"Ms. Snow."
My head snapped up immediately.
Xavier stood at the front, his gaze fixed on me. "Answer the question."
I had not yet realised just how far I had spaced out until Xavier called my name and with every waking second, my mind kept replacing the cold look in his eyes that day.
For a moment, everything else faded until it was just him watching me and waiting.
I forced myself to focus and answered clearly, laying out my argument without hesitation. When I finished, the room was quiet.
Xavier held my gaze for a second longer before giving a single nod. "Correct."
