The voice had barely finished echoing through the corridor when Cain vanished.
It was not fast in a way the eye could follow.
It was not a blur.
It was not a dash.
He simply… was no longer there.
One moment he stood by the balcony, relaxed, calm, looking out over the domain like he belonged to it, and in the next, there was nothing. Not even a trace of movement, not even the faintest distortion in the air. It was as if he had dissolved into the space itself, like smoke that had never been held long enough to be seen.
The vampire who had called out froze mid-step.
His hand was still half-raised, his mouth slightly open, his eyes fixed on the place where Cain had been standing.
"…What…"
The word slipped out before he could stop it.
He took a slow step forward, his eyes scanning the area, his senses expanding outward as he searched for any trace of presence, any lingering aura that could tell him where the human had gone.
But there was nothing.
No footsteps.
No breath.
