Chapter 111 - Forget-Me-Not

That evening, David and Dianne went to the concert at a large convention hall. Just like the football match the day before, a great number of spectators arrived because the performer was a rock star who was currently very popular. David noticed a banner of the rock singer, whose name turned out to be Larry. He had short black hair, neatly trimmed on top, and wore piercings on both ears, nose, and his chin.

David and Dianne stood near the middle, slightly closer to the main stage. Once again, the people around them kept looking at David. Dianne noticed this because her husband's build appeared to be the largest among the crowd.

"They feel safe because you're here, darling..." Dianne laughed softly. David remained silent.

The performance began, and the rock singer whom the audience had been waiting for finally appeared. The crowd erupted into loud cheers and chanted his name. When Larry started singing, all of the fans sang along, and Dianne did the same. David looked the most different among the sea of fans, as he quietly watched the singer. After Larry had performed all of his songs, the concert ended, and the audience gradually left the convention hall, including David and Dianne.

While they were in the car, Dianne held her husband's hand again with a smile. David merely glanced at her.

"Did you enjoy the concert? I know you tried to enjoy it in your own way..."

"Yes, Dianne. I enjoyed it..." David said.

"Do you still remember what tomorrow is, darling?"

"Saturday?" David replied. Dianne lowered her head for a moment, took a rather deep breath, and squeezed her husband's hand a little tighter.

"Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary, darling. I want tomorrow to be a special day for us." Dianne's eyes became watery and tried smiling.

"Yes... I want it too..." David replied.

Dianne held her husband's cheek and leaned her head closer. Instinctively, David also held his wife's cheek, and they kissed once again beneath the beautiful moonlight.

The next day, the two of them went out to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Doly was left with a neighbor who also kept cats. David first drove to their cousin's house to pick up Darla. Dianne's family warmly welcomed him and expressed their gratitude that David had became well. After visiting for a while, the three of them excused themselves and headed straight to the city center. Dianne said that she had already planned where they would go that day.

"Darling, let's go there first, alright!" Dianne pointed toward a fairly large building. David parked the car and briefly looked at the name of the building.

[Lucy's Flower World]

All of them got out, and inside there were many people looking at and buying various kinds of flowers, from potted to arranged bouquets. Darla happily wandered around, admiring the beautiful and colorful flowers. Not long afterward, a middle-aged woman with long white hair and green eyes approached the three of them. Dianne immediately beamed with joy, walked over to her, and embraced her. She then introduced the woman to her husband.

"Dear, this is Ms. Lucy, the owner of this flower shop. I first met her at a gathering for Army soldiers' wives. Her husband is an Army general." Dianne explained. David then shook hands with Lucy, and she said that her husband often talked about David as well. He remained silent and listened.

"Please choose any flowers you like here! I've already heard from Ms. Dianne that today is your wedding anniversary." Lucy smiled. Dianne thanked her warmly, and invited David to choose suitable flowers.

Suddenly, Darla, who was standing in front of a flower pot, called her parents over. David and Dianne looked at the flower their daughter was pointing at.

"These blue flowers look so cute! I think they're perfect for daddy and mommy who wearing blue clothes!" Darla smiled widely. Lucy also looked at the flower.

"That's called Myosotis, better known as the 'forget-me-nots.' This flower symbolizes remembrance and everlasting love. It became famous by that name because of the legend of a knight who picked the flower beside a river for his beloved. But he fell into the river, and before he drowned, he shouted those words to his beloved." she explained.

"Such a sad story, but now the flower feels both adorable and touching! I'll take this flower, ma'am!" Dianne said.

David picked up the flower pot and looked at it. The flower's name immediately made him tried again to remember someone he had known very well before, but he still could not figure out who that person was or what they looked like.

"Forget... me... nots..." David murmured, his eyes becoming somewhat distant. Suddenly, Darla stood in front of him.

"Dad really likes the flower Darla picked!" his daughter smiled sweetly. David knelt down and gently stroked Darla's head and cheek. He embraced his daughter once again. Dianne and Lucy were both touched as they saw it.

After leaving Lucy's flower shop, they all returned to the car, and Dianne directed David to a restaurant. After parking once again, David noticed that the restaurant was rather luxurious. When the three of them entered, another middle-aged woman greeted them. Dianne and the woman embraced each other like old friends who had not met for a long time.

"Darling, let me introduce you again. This is Ms. Delby. She was my close friend when we were in college, and now she owns this restaurant." his wife explained. David simply shook hands with Ms. Delby. She then led the three of them to the table that had been prepared.

"Please choose anything you'd like from the menu today! Ms. Dianne already told me that you're celebrating your wedding anniversary. I've also prepared our best musical performance for you later." Delby looked enthusiastic. Dianne thanked her warmly.

The waiters arrived and served the meal in several courses. David and his family enjoyed the food while being accompanied by classic instrumental music and a romantic song.

"I brought you here so you wouldn't keep eating fast food all the time, my dear." Dianne smiled. David nodded as he finished his main course.

As they began eating dessert, Delby returned and sat on a chair brought over by one of the waiters. She asked Dianne for her opinion about the restaurant she had recently opened. Dianne said that it had exceeded her expectations and hoped that even more menu varieties would be added in the future. Delby thanked her for the praise and suggestions before smiling at Darla, who was still happily enjoying her favorite cake.

"Before becoming who I am today, I used to live in a shabby apartment. I often looked after and helped care for the little boy living next door. He lived in poverty, was often left alone while his mother worked, and frequently suffered abuse from his own father. Even now, I sincerely hope that he's still doing well and living a happy life. You're very fortunate to have a father and mother who love you so much, Darla..." Ms. Delby explained.

Once again, Dianne was deeply moved by her old friend's story, and tears welled up in her eyes. David paused while eating his dessert and began thinking once more about that little boy. Darla merely glanced at both of her parents, noticing the different expressions on their faces.

"Perhaps this is that little boy's way of thanking you." Dianne said. Delby shed a few tears and wiped them away with a tissue while smiling.

David asked Delby where the restroom was, and she asked one of the waiters to escort him there. After leaving the restroom, David once again thought about the man he had seen at the sink in the fast-food restaurant two days earlier. As he walked back toward the table, still thinking about that person, he accidentally bumped into another restaurant customer. David saw that the man was a fair-skinned adult with short brown hair combed to the left. However, the man became irritated with him.

"Hey! You bumped into me! Aren't you watching where you're going?! I'm not afraid of your big muscles!"

David glared sharply at him. Suddenly, a young woman ran over to the man, looking worried.

"Navel! That's enough. Don't start a fight here!" she said to the man, whose name turned out to be Navel.

"I-I'm very sorry, sir, for what my brother said. We'll excuse ourselves now..." the young woman said to David while gently rubbing Navel's shoulder and leading him back to their table. David saw that Navel still looked annoyed, but he ignored him and returned to his own table as well. Fortunately, Dianne had not seen the incident.

After saying goodbye to Delby, Dianne wanted to stop by an ATM to withdraw some cash. While David was waiting outside, he was startled by an adult man wearing a dark leather jacket running with a woman chasing after him. At a glance, the man appeared fairly tall and had short blond hair.

"Heeelp...!!! He stole my baaag...!!!" the woman screamed.

The man immediately ran even faster, forcefully shoving aside anyone blocking his way, causing several people to fall. As he drew closer, David stepped forward and, with incredible speed, stopped the thief by grabbing him from behind, lifting him into the air, and slamming him onto the ground face down. David locked both of the thief's arms and legs while the man continued shouting curses.

David returned the bag to the woman, who repeatedly thanked him. Not long afterward, a police car arrived. A sheriff stepped out, and David pulled the thief to his feet before handing him over.

"Simone... You really never learn, do you? You've been in and out of prison countless times! I'll have you transferred to a prison on a remote island!" the sheriff handcuffed Simone and placed him into the police car. Afterward, he returned to David.

"Allow me to introduce myself, sir. I'm Sheriff Lorentz. I sincerely thank you for helping capture this repeat offender. I'll make sure he receives a punishment more fitting for him," he shook David's hand. David simply nodded.

As Sheriff Lorentz got back into the police car, Dianne and Darla approached David, looking worried because a crowd had gathered around him. They had heard that a large man had stopped a bag-snatching.

"Darling, are you alright?" she held her husband forearm.

"No need to worry, Dianne..." David said to her before glancing at the police car as it drove away from him.
