Chapter 81 - The Same Path as Hellraider

I observed carefully the spear David was holding. I had only ever seen that spear in the glass mosaics of the throne room and other important gathering rooms. The first Emperor of Grivendal, Grhemolus, was the previous owner of that spear named Grunginus. However its form had already changed where Grunginus became a double-bladed spear. I was still confused why that spear could change form when David possessed it.

I recalled according to the game's story where to defeat Azkerath, David was directed by Mendicore to take Marsiel's spear who was nicknamed the God of War in the abandoned High Heaven fortress in hell. Did that mean the reason this war ended was because David used that Grunginus? Truly even though there were differences from the game's storyline, the principle carried out was still the same.

Suddenly, I remembered other The Mayhem lore, where the Hellraider became nearly invincible in the hell realms after gaining divine powers. The similar red spear was the ultimate sealer of his powers, allowing him to remain inert in the ground for a very long time before a space explorers accidentally discovered it while exploring that terrifying realm. From the inscriptions they found and studied, the spear was an act to prevent the chaotic balance of the cosmos caused by the Hellraider's actions. Perhaps the God of War himself was the one who did this. I never expected the thing that sealed him to be in his possession again.

"Does that mean Sir David defeated the demon king with that spear?" I said to make sure.

"Correct. Not only defeating him, The Great Lord David also protected all of us from his deadly curse attack using the energy shield from his spear." Gruzhnil explained.

I was amazed by Grunginus's ability in David's hands. As far as I knew in the game, when David wanted to finish off Azkerath, he only stabbed Marsiel's spear into his chest toward his heart. It seemed a very fierce battle had occurred between David with his spear against Azkerath where instead I was critically near death and ended up being eaten by the demon king. I then approached David.

"It seems Sir David was indeed chosen by Archangel Marsiel and Grhemolus. I never expected that you would use a spear weapon as well to win the final battle..."

David only looked at me and then he showed a slight demonstration of his spear.

"No need to do dangerous things again..." David finally spoke to me.

I let out a long sigh while closing my eyes briefly and smiling. David had become more caring toward me.

"Thank you, sir. I promise I will help you from behind until your mission is truly finished..."

David only glanced at me again while holding his Grunginus with his right hand and placing it upright on the ground. Gruzhnil followed by Grelmure then approached David as well and immediately gave respect by bowing.

"Great Lord David, will You attend the funeral ceremony of The Graendall warriors who fell tomorrow? If You are willing, I will pick You up tomorrow morning." Gruhznil asked.

David only nodded once. Gruzhnil smiled happily and thanked him. We said goodbye and immediately returned to headquarters. I saw David go back into his old house again.

"Will Sir David like his new residence, commander? I see he still feels at home living in that house."

"Great Lord David will live in a place fitting for his achievements, Johann. This has already been approved by the Emperor and Archangel Geriel. When the Emperor informed Lord David about this, He seemed to accept it. So in my opinion there is no problem. Lord David's old house still remains his property."

I fell silent after hearing it. From the game story and Artbook I had once read, David indeed received a special place after stopping the great invasion of hell. I saw that place as some kind of sacred temple. I became increasingly worried that I could not guide David to obtain a better ending story.

After arriving at the Palace escorted by Grelmure, I returned to my room to bathe and continued with dinner. Honestly I didn't know how long the Emperor would allow me to stay here. Maybe after my condition improved, I would return to living in the old house again together with Mendicore and Sherubiel. The two of them also seemed to go back and forth even though it was easier with Mendicore's portal.

When I arrived at the dining room, it turned out there were still Sherubiel, Mendicore and... Princess Glynpatra. They seemed to be chatting like a group of girls gossiping. Glynpatra then glanced at me with her flirtatious expression.

"Whoooaaa... The celebrity has just greeted his fans all day there hahahaaa..." Glynpatra said while laughing.

I approached her and sat beside them.

"You two should have accompanied me earlier. Instead of hiding at home..." I said while glancing at Mendicore and Sherubiel.

"I would rather gossip with Princess Glynpatra all day than be surrounded by many people crazy about their idol..." Sherubiel said while giggling.

"Then it was useless for you to get 2nd place during that talent show event back then. I thought you wanted to be more known by many other people..." I replied with a pouting face.

"Huuuhhh... Sherubiel got 2nd place??? Why didn't you tell me??? You could have performed your talent inside the Palace back then..." Glynpatra said immediately glancing toward her.

Sherubiel immediately lowered her head while her cheeks reddened and she smiled awkwardly. I only laughed seeing her behavior. I didn't tell about my experience at David's house because Glynpatra would continue bombarding me with her chatter and I would not have time for dinner.

After finishing eating, I briefly went to the resting room occupied by Sherubiel and Mendicore. Glynpatra told me that she herself had asked them to stay overnight in the Palace first. I think she wanted me to mingle again after the great war.

"Did Geriel speak again with you while I was still unconscious?"

"Ummm... no Johann. Lord Geriel didn't say anything else to me... I briefly met him at the southern headquarters when the High Heaven fleet came to help. But he only glanced at me briefly and immediately spoke with the Emperor and the High Priest..." Sherubiel said.

"As for me only that time where Lord Geriel was together with you and the others when asking Lord David to go up to High Heaven to meet Lord Marsiel. Other than that afterward he didn't say anything else to me." Mendicore said.

Hearing that explanation, my annoyance toward Geriel appeared again. Why did he not try at least to give even a few words to them? Had High Heaven truly forgotten them because of the disgrace they carried? I had even given respect when first meeting Geriel during that welcoming ceremony. I could not comprehend the arrogance of the only remaining archangel.

I suddenly thought of one thing about that archangel...

"Mendicore, did you get information about what Lord Marsiel and Lord David did while in High Heaven?" I asked.

"Honestly I could not get any information about that because you yourself know Lord Geriel has already closed communication with us. I also didn't dare ask Lord David directly after this war ended. Did you happen to ask as well, Johann?"

I had already expected it. Even if I asked him, David would either just stare at me or answer with a few words implying not to be too curious.

"No Mendicore... Even though he seems get close to me, Sir David is not the kind of person who suddenly becomes open just like that..."

"But... I observed one striking thing when Lord David returned to the battlefield besides carrying the transformed Grunginus Spear. He truly possessed an energy aura like Lord Marsiel. I don't know exactly why that could happen. However this is my estimation which may cause you enough shocked hearing it..." Said Mendicore

My eyes then opened wide while thinking of one possibility from Mendicore.

"Could it be... Lord Marsiel gave his entire soul to Sir David???" I guessed.

"Yes... According to my suspicion. This is the most reasonable estimation if Lord Marsiel's final condition was like that..." Mendicore said.

"That means... Lord Marsiel is now gone and remains inside Sir David's body... But why does it seem he hasn't changed at all???" I asked becoming more curious.

"Possibly because even though it's Lord Marsiel's soul, he can't shift the position of Lord David's original soul so Lord Marsiel only gives his physical power to his new body. I once said that soul and deeds are one unity, maybe it also applies to soul and body..." Sherubiel said.

I nodded. Sherubiel's statement also made sense. But I think what was even more accurate was because David's soul and body were such a complete unity and could not be separated by any supernatural energy usually found in people experiencing possession.

I once read the storyline of The Mayhem that the divine power given to David was actually a fragment of the Absolute Creator's power. Mendicore once said that this universe was created by "The Absolute One" and Marsiel was His first creation.

I became increasingly chilled at why the game storyline once again in principle matched the journey of me and David. Instead of feeling relieved because the great war with the hell monsters had passed and I had almost truly died, this made me begin panicking about how I could help avoid the tragic final fate of David.

"You seem confused again, Johann... Actually we are also equally confused by this phenomenon. But it would be better not to think about it too far and we should enjoy these times of great victory." Sherubiel said.

"Ehh... no-no... Forgive me if I am always still like this..." I said while scratching my head and smiling embarrassedly.
