The moment I left my brother's chambers, I didn't stop walking.
I knew if I stayed there any longer, I would tear something apart that did not deserve it, and that would do nothing to fix what had already been done.
She was hurt.
That was the only thing that stayed in my head, repeating over and over again until it became the only thing I could hear.
I didn't know who did it.
I didn't know how it happened.
All I knew was where.
Seventh ranked floor.
That was enough.
By the time I reached the corridor where she had last been, my hands were already curling into fists, heat building under my skin in a way that never meant anything good for anyone around me.
I stopped in the middle of the hallway, forcing myself to breathe once, then again, because if I let the anger take over too soon, I would miss something, and I could not afford that.
Not now.
Not when she was lying there between life and death.
I lifted my hand and dragged it slowly across my face.
