LENORA'S POV
The tension between us wasn't the sweet kind. It was dangerous, because neither of us wanted to be the one to cross the line he drew between us.
Then just like that, he stepped away from me, carrying his warmth along.
"Go meet Lucian," he said, his composure which gave nothing away was back into place.
There was no explanation, no acknowledgment of the way he had pulled me close only moments ago, no sign that anything had changed between us.
He stood there as if I had imagined it, as if I hadn't felt his hand at my waist, as if my pulse hadn't stumbled because of him.
I nodded slowly, even though my thoughts were still tangled. I turned toward the door because staying would only make it worse.
The walk to Lucian's chamber felt longer than usual, and I barely noticed the turns I took, only the echo of my own footsteps and the tightness building in my chest.
When I pushed his door open, he was already pacing, as if he had been waiting.
