Chapter 18 - IX

The Necrotic Symphony is this woman's power.

At first, her family was known as a group of doctors studying the human body, seeking to extend human lifespan. It was a project deeply cherished by her mother, and she did everything she could to make her proud.

Her magic originally allowed her to create only unstable, weak clones. She had to sacrifice her own energy to produce them.

Then came the day of the great banquet, an important event for their family where everyone presented their scientific progress. Or at least, that was how it was supposed to be…

"Human flesh… is the best way to push the limits of your bodies. We will become such a large family that no one will dare disturb us… now, begin this magnificent meal."

Everyone knew it.

What was on that table was not just cooked meat… but their own family.

And yet, they ate. Because for them, nothing mattered more than their mother's love.

But one day, their family was accused and became known as the most horrific cannibal family in human history.

From that moment on, the young woman's power evolved into Cruel Necrosis. To create clones, she must necrotize part of her own body, turning it into a mass of flesh before reforming it into human shape… a monstrous duplicate.

She can reverse the necrosis to restore her body, but it consumes a massive amount of biological energy. She cannot continuously spam clones; as long as they exist, she is limited.

The name Kivarro became cursed.

And today, she stands in this forest, throwing spheres of flesh that temporarily take human form before exploding, using half-formed bone and tissue as shrapnel to tear her enemies apart.

All of this… for Aria, who is in desperate danger.

"The child-devourer… I really have the worst luck during this festival…"

But she steadies herself.

She has already evacuated the civilians. One task remains.

Capture the child-devourer.

She grits her teeth.

Impossible. She is too strong.

Even her recent training with Madame Lamia only prepared her for physical combat, not monsters like this.

The woman suddenly stops and scratches her arm, dropping pieces of flesh onto the ground.

"My name is Romanié Kivarro… your existence interests her, and I cannot accept that."

The flesh pieces begin to change, growing arms and legs.

Small creatures are born, the size of a puppy, scattering in all directions.

"Do you think moving me away protects her? She will be devoured like the others… The orphanage was such a wonderful source of entertainment. But it's over now."

Aria sees one of the creatures.

"Soon, the rise of the Devourers will begin… and the world will become a magical feast. A table you are not invited to."

The creature explodes.

Aria barely manages to raise her blades in defense. The blast sends her crashing through a tree.

The pain is unbearable. Her back burns. She struggles to breathe, as if drowning in her own saliva.

"Found you~"

The creatures rush her.

She runs, dodges, but an explosion sends a shard of bone into her left leg. She cries out in pain but keeps moving.

She leaps and strikes Romanié with her chained twin blades.

The battle begins.

But Romanié gains the upper hand, landing a heavy blow to her stomach.

Aria struggles to breathe. Then a punch to the face.

Time feels slowed.

But she refuses to fall.

She grabs Romanié's arm.

"Spark of a New Day."

Dark stars burst from her back like wings.

A magic similar to Lux… but different.

Weaker. Darker.

But enough.

The stars pierce Romanié's body.

Silence.

She falls.

"…Did I win? Did I really kill a Devourer?"

She staggers.

"No time to be proud… I need to find Mister Gregor…"

She limps toward the picnic area.

"I'm back…"

Then she stops.

The sound of flesh being torn apart… consumed.

Her eyes freeze.

Horror.

Gina…

Nix…

And what she sees is beyond comprehension.

She trembles, unable to process it.

Then Nix lifts her head.

"Welcome back, big sister."
