Chapter 64 - Chapter 64

The Final Farewell

XiaoYan's hands trembled as he cradled Mi-An's frail body, her chest rising and falling weakly. The battlefield around them was chaos incarnate: dust and smoke swirled in the air, demons clashed with disciples, and the earth still trembled from the aftermath of the battle. Yet, all XiaoYan could focus on was her.

"Mi-An… look… I avenged your father. Come back to me!" he cried, his voice raw and breaking. Tears streamed freely down his cheeks, splattering onto her face. His heart ached as though the world itself had collapsed.

Mi-An's eyes fluttered open, shimmering faintly with the reddish glow of her ancient fox aura. Her gaze met his, soft and warm despite the blood staining her lips. "Thank you… I've always wanted to tell you… I liked you… long before the trial," she whispered, each word fragile, almost fading with her fading strength. "Now… you've completed your mission… I'm sorry… I won't be there for you…"

Her hands slipped slowly from XiaoYan's face. She was slipping away, her life force dimming like the last embers of a dying flame. XiaoYan's chest tightened, his mind screaming against the cruel reality. "Mi-An… Mi-An… no! No! NO!!" His voice echoed across the battlefield, cutting through the roar of combat and the clash of armies. His grief was pure, raw, and unrestrained.

The evil god, already reduced to ashes, had vanished completely, but his absence brought no relief. The air was heavy with tension, the battlefield littered with the aftermath of destruction: scorched earth, broken weapons, and fallen disciples and Saints alike. Mi-An's body, small and fragile, seemed even more vulnerable in the vast chaos surrounding them.

XiaoYan's hands trembled as he tried to stabilize her, pouring every ounce of his power into holding her soul close, willing her not to leave. Yet despite all his strength, she remained silent, her life force gradually slipping from him.

Around them, the demons surged forward, their eyes glowing with malice. The disciples rallied, exhausted but resolute, forming a defensive line to hold the oncoming tide. Clashing steel, bursts of energy, and screams of battle filled the air. But XiaoYan's mind was singularly focused on Mi-An, refusing to let her go.

A gentle wind swept across the battlefield, lifting her red hair slightly, brushing against XiaoYan's tear-streaked face. It felt like a whisper from the heavens, a fleeting moment of calm amid the chaos. He gritted his teeth, clutching her tightly. "No… I won't let you leave me," he murmured, but deep down, he knew she had completed her mission, and the Ansha's legacy had been honored.

Finally, her eyes closed, and her body became still. XiaoYan's hands shook violently as the last remnants of her life departed. "Mi-An… Mi-An… no… no… no!!!" His scream split the air, a mixture of grief, rage, and despair.

The demons paused for a moment, sensing the surge of power and anguish radiating from XiaoYan. Their momentum wavered, giving the disciples a slight advantage to regroup and counterattack. Yet the loss of Mi-An cast a shadow over every heart present.

Far above, in a distant and shadowed plane, the InShi watched silently. A thin, calculating smile touched his lips as he observed every agonizing detail of the battle below. The world trembled, and yet he remained untouched, orchestrating his plans with cold precision. The fall of the evil god and the death of Mi-An were but moves in a much larger game, and the InShi's presence promised that the real trials were only beginning.

XiaoYan knelt beside Mi-An, his chest heaving, tears streaking through the dirt and blood on his face. The battlefield raged around him, yet his world had narrowed to the empty space beside her. Even in silence, he swore, "I will protect everyone… I will carry on… and I will make sure your sacrifice was not in vain."

The ashes of the evil god drifted away, mingling with Mi-An's spirit, leaving only the echoes of their struggle and the memory of her sacrifice. The battlefield fell into a tense quiet, a momentary pause before the next wave of chaos descended, and the eyes of the InShi lingered, calculating the inevitable.
