The number of rats was unknown, but their strength was evident. They could be as weak as some pitiful nobles or as strong as a True Vampire—perhaps even a Vampire Duke.
That's why he didn't ask about their strength. Instead, he got straight to the point. "Is there anyone we know?"
"I don't know if this is relevant, but do you know who's visiting this city these days?"
"Hm?" Edward raised his eyebrows questioningly.
"Instructor Mervan—he came for a mission."
His brow furrowed, and he leaned back in his chair.
That was a suspicious person doing suspicious things. It's not that instructors don't go to mission sites. They often visit to check on them personally, but they usually have subordinates—teachers or junior instructors—who handle that.
Although Mervan isn't a senior instructor, he does have several subordinates for that job.
Of course, maybe they were overthinking it. It's likely that he simply had too many missions piling up, and his subordinates couldn't keep up.
