Chapter 97: Fragile Welcome
The duke ignored the outcry, his eyes fixed only on Hannah, then lifted his gaze to the crowd.
"And before the title is fully granted to her, she will have to prove herself. But let me be clear, each and every one of you will be granted a chance to challenge her, to test her worth. This is not a gift without weight."
He paused, his voice swelling with pride.
"I believe you've all seen her power. Seen her dragon. But I want you all to take notice: after so many generations, Gorthmorde once more has a mage with irregular magic—the power to command mythical beasts. And she does not command one. She commands two."
He gestured to Hannah's shoulder, to the small black dragon and the floating cloth-like fairy.
"A majestic black dragon… and a fairy banshee, a creature thought lost to time."
Ren instantly bristled, tiny scales flaring in sharp indignation.
COMMAND? TAME? he roared mentally, loud enough to make Hannah's ears ring.
