Chapter 98 - Chapter 98: Hope Is Finally Here

An insect-man priest!

Neia's heart went cold. Dragging her heavy body, she arched her back and resisted the gravity with everything she had to keep herself from kneeling on the ground.

In our current state, there's no way we can match a hero-class demi-human!

"The Mad Eye's archer?" The insect-man priest's gaze fell upon Neia's sharp eyes and the magic bow in her hand, and he let out a sneer. "Are you his daughter?"

He waved his ritual staff with one hand, pointing it vaguely at Neia.

"Urrg!"

Neia let out a muffled groan as she felt the gravity suddenly double. It was as if a ten-thousand-pound boulder was pressing down on her. Her legs were forced into a bend, and her knees made a constant creaking sound as bone ground against bone.

She glared at the insect-man priest, blood leaking from the corner of her mouth. Gritting her teeth, she spoke. "Disgusting bug."

The insect-man priest's sharp mouthparts twitched a few times as he commanded mockingly, "Chop off the limbs of everyone holding a weapon. Be careful not to kill them. That adult ordered that no one is to be killed until the sun goes down."

"As for you…"

Neia struggled to lift her bow, wanting to fire an arrow, but the gravity acting on her body was simply too great. Just lifting her hand exhausted all her strength, let alone drawing the bow and nocking an arrow.

Swoosh!

A blade flashed through the air with a cold light, and with a pssh, it severed Neia's left arm.

The arm flew through the air, its image reflected in Neia's "Mad Eye."

"Arrrrrrgh!"

A piercing pain radiated from her left shoulder through her entire body, instantly draining all her strength. With a thud, she fell to her knees and wailed in agony.

The tiger-headed demi-human weighed his large blade in his hand, grinning cruelly at Neia. "Keke~ Don't worry, I know how to control my strikes. With your physical constitution, you'll definitely last until sunset."

A flicker of mockery flashed in the insect-man priest's eyes. "So the daughter of the Mad Eye is only this much…"

Immediately after, he waved his staff, and the gravity dissipated.

"Huff! Huff!…" Neia suddenly felt her body lighten. Clutching her left shoulder, she began to gasp for breath.

The little girl she had saved earlier clutched a scrap of cloth and squeezed out from the crowd. She cast a fearful glance at the tiger-headed demi-human nearby and then, gathering her courage, rushed to Neia's side. "Big sister, let me bandage you up."

Neia patted the little girl's head with her right hand, a trace of apology forced onto her pale face. "I'm so sorry… it looks like we're really going to die this time."

"Big sister, you were really cool just now, especially the way you were shooting arrows in the sky. You looked just like Lord Pavel!" The little girl's earlier daze and pessimism vanished. As she bandaged the wound, her eyes sparkled while looking at Neia.

Just like my father… Neia gave a self-deprecating smile. Neither her father nor she had been able to protect everyone.

"Big sister, don't be so pessimistic." The little girl tied a cute bow over Neia's severed arm and comforted her with a smile.

This made Neia laugh despite her pain. She pinched the little girl's cheek and said, "I wonder who it was that was almost crying from fear just now."

The little girl looked up with a smiling face, full of hope. "Big sister, do you know? When people are in despair, the gods will descend to save us!"

God?

That evil god who followed Caspond and broke through the city gates?

The so-called Four Great Gods are nothing more than a disgusting evil god… The little girl had not been on the city walls at the time and had not witnessed what the so-called god looked like with her own eyes.

And Neia did not want to shatter her last shred of fantasy.

"Urg.."

She lay directly on the ground. The excessive blood loss made her feel exceptionally exhausted.

Beside her, the tiger-headed demi-human grinned hideously while holding his blade. Atop the city wall, the insect-man priest looked down with disdain.

"Me… I won't believe in any gods anymore."

The warm sunlight spilled down, stinging her eyes and making them a bit blurry.

"The sun has wings?"

It seemed she really had lost too much blood.

Neia shook her head and squinted her "Mad Eye" to look at the sky.

At the center of a pair of golden light wings, a figure with flowing white hair and a face as holy and handsome as a god's was flying beneath the sun.

He looked around, his gaze falling on the pile of mummified corpses in the center of the square, the terrified and numb crowd, the blood-soaked ground, and finally on the little girl and Neia.

Neia could clearly see the sadness and pity in his eyes.

"Big sister, look! It's a god! A god has come to save us!"

The little girl grabbed Neia's right arm and shook it excitedly, her small face filled with joy.

"Is it really a god?" Neia murmured.

"Hmph, what bullshit god!" The tiger-headed demi-human bared his teeth and said disdainfully, "Just some trash who happens to know how to use flight magic."

"Fifth-Tier Magic: Gravity!" The insect-man priest waved the staff in his hand and pointed it toward the sky. Instantly, a distorted field formed, acting directly upon the figure.

"Get down here, birdman!"

With a boom, the vertical gravity field seemed to pour out ten thousand pounds of force in an instant, pressing a circular crater three meters in diameter into the ground.

In the sky, Helant's robes fluttered. His cold expression seemed completely unaffected by the gravity field. He merely looked at the people on the ground with pity, suppressing his anger as he spoke as gently as possible. "Don't worry, you are about to be saved."

"A powerhouse!" When the insect-man priest saw that Helant was completely unaffected, alarm bells rang in his heart. He gripped his ritual staff and threw out several gravity fields in succession while constantly retreating.

Helant glanced sideways and raised one hand high. The midday sun now seemed to be held aloft by him.

"Holy Light: Shining Sun."

The clear, cold voice pierced the bodies of all the demi-humans present like a freezing wind, striking their souls like a god pronouncing a death sentence.

As the voice sounded, beams of golden light bloomed from the sun, accurately shining upon every single demi-human.

For a moment, the expressions of astonishment and terror on the faces of all the demi-humans present were clearly illuminated by the beams of light.

The warmth on his fur did not make the tiger-headed demi-human feel comfortable. Instead, he began to tremble as if he had fallen into an ice cellar. "I'm going to die!"

The combat instincts honed over years of fighting on the front lines were screaming in warning.

No escape, no resistance.

The god-like figure of Helant was reflected in his eyes. His breathing became rapid, and his heart was filled with despair and regret.

"N-No.. Damn it. If.. if I had known, I wouldn't have guarded this city."

The insect-man priest, who was even more sensitive to magic, was already kneeling on the ground trembling. He clutched his head with his six arms and begged for mercy. "My lord, please spare me!"

Based on his perception of magic, this spell was at least Seventh-Tier or higher.

"Spare you?"

Helant seemed to laugh out of extreme anger. Anyone could hear that a ball of fury was burning in his chest. "These civilians, these defenders. Did you ever think of sparing them?!"

He clenched his hand tightly, and the temperature of all the sunlight enveloping the demi-humans instantly skyrocketed.

Boom!

Raging flames ignited all the demi-humans, the fire burning like maggots on a bone.

"Argh!"

"Help! This fire won't go out!"

"I was wrong! I don't want to die!"

The invisible sunlight acted like an oven, pinning all the demi-humans to the spot. No matter how they struggled, they could not escape. For a time, the savory scent of roasted meat could even be smelled in the air.
