Chapter 91 - Exam Week

Two days later, Adrian, who was about to rust in the school hospital, was finally allowed to leave.

He'd had enough of being stuck in a hospital bed and having to drink medicine every day.

Had it not been for Madam Pomfrey's insistence that the consequences of abandoning treatment were serious, Adrian would have discharged himself already.

However, his life after being discharged wasn't satisfactory because it wasn't long before the end-of-term exams.

On the first day after he left the hospital bed, Hermione appeared with a thick stack of books in front of him.

"A History of Magic", "The Standard Book of Spells", Grade 1, "A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration", "Magical Drafts and Potions."

"The exam is in a week. I think you need to make up for the time you lost before..." Hermione sat next to Adrian and offered advice.

"I remember these books. Haven't we read them already?" Adrian said blankly.

"How can it be the same? If we want to be safe in the exam, we have to memorize all these books!" Hermione declared firmly, before Adrian could object.

"I've already finished memorizing them all. In addition, the professors have taught a lot of new lessons in the past few days while you were away. I'll go through them with you one by one later."

Adrian felt a headache looking at the books stacked together that were about half his height. He wasn't interested in reviewing books he'd already understood thoroughly.

Adrian turned his head to look at Harry and Ron and found they were both happily watching from the sidelines.

Noticing Adrian's gaze, Harry hurriedly held up the book in his hand. Ron even held his book upside down but still pretended to read hard.

They didn't want to attract Hermione's attention. With so many books, they wouldn't be able to memorize them all until next year.

Adrian snorted and motioned to Hermione to ignore the two watching for entertainment.

"They're beyond help anyway!" Hermione said dismissively.

Harry and Ron, struck by this comment, buried their heads in their books, speechless.

Fortunately, in the exam a week later, Harry and Ron discovered their knowledge level wasn't as bad as Hermione had said.

Because the performance of other young wizards was worse, they were still quite good in comparison. Ron was very confident he could get an E in the two courses of Charms and Herbology.

After the Potions exam, Ron lost this confidence, because Snape often wandered around them during the exam, which made Harry and Ron nervous.

But this little pressure was of course no big deal to Adrian. His level four potion ability wasn't for show. The potion he prepared was far beyond student level and could be sold directly without issue.

After he finished, Snape stopped and marked his paper. Adrian could see it should be a big O (Outstanding).

Harry's performance had also been very stable, so Snape couldn't find a chance to be nasty at all.

Next was the Transfiguration test. Professor McGonagall asked students to come in one by one and turn a small round piece of wood into a button shape in front of her.

As long as it could be transformed successfully, it was considered passing. If the button someone transformed was the right size and had delicate patterns added to it, they'd get the highest grade!

Adrian observed for a while. Among the first-year students at Gryffindor, only Hermione should be able to achieve this, because the young witch was very happy when she came out, her mouth raised in a smile.

"Adrian Blackwood!"

Professor McGonagall's voice came from the classroom.

Adrian calmly walked in. There was only a long table in the empty classroom. Professor McGonagall wasn't looking at him but was staring at the delicate button on the table.

Obviously, that was Hermione's exam work just now.

"Professor McGonagall, can I start?" Adrian took out his wand from his sleeve, eager to try.

"Of course, but I think these tests aren't that difficult for you." Professor McGonagall raised her head and looked at Adrian with satisfaction in her eyes. She even drew a big O on the report card in front of her.

Whether it was the ghost faces she'd seen on the fourth floor or the structures Adrian had transfigured in front of her a few days ago, Professor McGonagall knew Adrian's level of Transfiguration was far beyond his peers.

The exam simply allowed professors to know whether students' progress was up to standard, and this exam obviously couldn't detect Adrian's true level.

"So I don't need to take the exam?" Adrian asked in confusion.

"No, I've prepared another topic for you. How about trying to make an object come alive? Whatever you want." Professor McGonagall took out a new wooden block from the drawer and promised that whether or not he could transform it successfully wouldn't affect his test score.

This was just an extra test.

Adrian nodded. He also wanted to try the limit of his Transfiguration ability. So Adrian conceived the image of a transformed creature in his mind and finally chose an owl. This could be considered being inspired by Dumbledore before, ready to recreate the scene of his transformation.

This would be a real biological transformation, the irreversible kind!

Professor McGonagall watched quietly, wondering why Adrian still wasn't using his wand, when she saw him suddenly wave it. The tip lightly touched the round wood.

The transformation this time was very slow.

It was extremely difficult to transform a piece of wood only ten centimeters in size into a living creature the size of an owl.

Adrian tried hard to recall the scene where his magic power burst out in the Room of Requirement, trying to make his magic power penetrate the wood, analyze its structure, and then change its form and even its nature!

Because he had experienced it before, Adrian progressed very smoothly, but he encountered difficulties with the transformation because he didn't understand the structure of flesh and blood cells.

Perhaps it was precisely because of this that the "phoenix" he'd finally created at the beginning had exploded instantly after he'd injected magic power!

"Wait...Blood cells?" Adrian suddenly realized something.

'Isn't my own body right here?'

He could just use magic to analyze his own body.

Thinking of this, Adrian immediately acted. First, he concentrated magic power on his little finger to do an experiment. After confirming there was no problem, he slowly spread it throughout his body.

But under normal conditions, Adrian couldn't let the magic power go deep into the cells. He could only analyze a rough idea, and he didn't dare mess with some important areas.

Even so, it was enough. The round wooden block on the table was constantly being stretched and changing to the shape Adrian expected.
