Back during the incident with the Witch on the Holy Night, he had manipulated Shizuki Soujuurou. He had used the boy as bait to draw out Aozaki Touko and the Golden Wolf, Lugh Beowulf. He had engineered battles that ignored collateral damage, resulting in heavy casualties among bystanders.
But he had done it to survive. To protect himself, Kuonji Alice, and Aoko.
It was pure egoism. But even now, Rimuru didn't think it was wrong.
"Alright, I get it," Rimuru chuckled, the tension dissolving. "I am a heinous villain. You're welcome to try and kill me again next time. Just remember to bring bigger guns."
The car rolled to a smooth stop.
"Regardless, you made a move on me. That means eventually, you are destined to die by my hand."
Rimuru unlocked the doors.
"But today isn't that day. And I wasn't lying before. I really did block your Sealing Designation for all four of those reasons I listed."
"All four…"
"Now. Get out."
Kiritsugu opened the door, stepping onto the pavement. He paused, looking back through the open window.
"...I believe the rest. But you? A magus?" Kiritsugu's lips twisted into a cold, self-deprecating sneer. "You actually 'respect' a despicable Magus Killer like me?"
"Why wouldn't I?"
Rimuru turned his head, genuinely perplexed by the question.
"Just because I don't do the 'right' thing myself, or because I sneer at the concept of justice, doesn't mean I don't know what the right thing is."
His gaze softened slightly.
"Sure, maybe those traditional, dusty old magi really don't understand. But for me? I think it's simple."
"It is precisely because I cannot be just or kind myself that I hold such deep respect and admiration for those who can."
You don't have to agree with them, but please respect them.
As a modern soul, that basic tenet of courtesy and human decency was carved into his bones.
"…"
Kiritsugu's lips parted slightly, but no sound came out. He stared at the strange, contradictory magus for a moment longer, then silently closed his mouth and stepped out of the car.
"Oh, right."
Rimuru restarted the engine. The roar of the late-80s sports car was a bit loud for the quiet street.
"I heard a rumor. Just a rumor, mind you. In the mysterious Far East, there is a ritual called the Holy Grail War."
He didn't look back at Kiritsugu, speaking casually to the windshield.
"They say the winner of this ritual receives the Greater Grail, an omnipotent wish granter capable of anything."
"Sometimes I wonder… could a thing like that save the world?"
"What do you think, Emiya Kiritsugu?"
….
Having planted the seed in Kiritsugu's mind, Rimuru hummed a cheerful tune as he drove toward the General Foundations lecture hall.
In the distance, a small figure spotted the silver car. Erol immediately broke into a sprint, her short legs pumping as she raced toward him.
Behind her, May watched with a gentle smile. Over the past few weeks, the three of them, Rimuru, May, and the child, had formed a routine that felt oddly warm. Almost like a family of three.
"Did Erol cause any trouble today?"
Rimuru parked the car. He ignored the little lolita who had scrambled into the passenger seat and was currently pummeling his arm with tiny, dissatisfied fists. He smiled at May through the window.
"No trouble. She's getting really good at controlling her Mana Bursts now."
If anyone else used Mana Burst, it was usually to reinforce their body or create a defensive layer. But sometimes, May suspected Aozaki Aoko was secretly tutoring the kid.
Erol's Mana Burst was pure, unadulterated violence. She had an innate talent for compressing her mana and firing it like a high-pressure water cannon. It wasn't so much a "burst" as it was a "simplified magic cannon." It was terrifying.
Thankfully, under Rimuru's strict suppression regime, she had finally kicked the habit of firing it off at random intervals.
"That's good to hear."
Rimuru greeted the professor in charge of Erol's class, then pulled out the small, leather-bound booklet, the Sealing Designation Enforcer license, and placed it on the dashboard in front of May.
"You're leaving?"
May understood instantly. Her smile faltered. "Is there really a need to rush? You just got your professorship…"
"I need combat experience." Rimuru shook his head, his smile apologetic but firm. "The Dean has already approved it. It's been years, and I still don't have a clear grasp of my own combat limits."
"Have you decided on a target?"
"Mm… I'm thinking Germany."
"Europe?" May covered her mouth in surprise. "Why go there?"
"I'm going to look for… something."
Rimuru gave a wry smile, struggling to explain.
He couldn't exactly say, "I'm going to Germany to hunt down the Twenty-Seven Dead Apostle Ancestors."
For him, contact with the Dead Apostle organization was inevitable. While most Magi sought the Root, a goal far grander than the "weakened" Dead Apostles, Rimuru wasn't interested in becoming the essence of the world. He wanted to travel between worlds.
That meant he eventually had to find the Wizard Marshal, Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg, the master of the Second Magic. And since Zelretch was deeply tied to the Dead Apostles, Rimuru needed to understand them first.
Plus… if he was lucky, he wanted to see if he could find the city where the legendary White Princess still slept.
The Millennium Castle.
"…"
May stared into Rimuru's golden eyes for a long moment. Finally, she sighed.
"Is it another 'revelation'? Fine."
"Eh?! Teacher…?!"
Erol, who had been listening with growing dread, suddenly stiffened. Her big eyes widened, filling with panic.
"Teacher…! You… you're leaving? Can you take Erol with you?"
"Uu! Erol will be good! I promise I won't, "
Before she could finish, the little girl launched herself from the passenger seat, diving headfirst into Rimuru's lap.
"Whoa!" Rimuru laughed helplessly, catching her. "It's not really 'leaving,' you know."
"My clone will stay at the Clock Tower to continue my duties as Professor. That's still half of me, right?"
"Clone?" May asked, confused.
"Yep. Slimes can split!" Rimuru grinned. "No matter what happens, the Clock Tower is my base. I can't just abandon my greatest shield."
"That makes sense…" May's expression softened into a relieved smile. "So, does this clone share your consciousness?"
"It does. My main focus might not be here all the time… but if you call me, I'll definitely hear you. Just treat it as if it were the real me."
Rimuru nodded with absolute confidence.
He might doubt his own ability to multitask, but he would never doubt the Great Sage. That thing processed information like a multi-threaded supercomputer. Running two bodies was child's play.
"So… I won't be without Teacher…?"
Erol didn't understand the technical details. She sat there, processing the information with her small brain. Then, a realization hit her.
Her eyes lit up.
She could have… two Rimurus!!
Two Teachers! Double the happiness!!
