"Right now, all I am worried about is my husband," she said. "Everything else can take a back seat. Now help me fucking get dressed."
Val frowned. When Veronica raised her voice like that, arguments ended. Val knew that tone too well. She helped Vee out of the hospital gown carefully, working around the bandaged hand. Val pulled the bag closer and searched through the clothes they had brought. Val helped her into a stretchy dress.
"Get me my phone," Vee instructed.
Val did as she was told. Before she knew it, Vee had the device in her hand and was making calls. She called the bodyguards first, ordered them to bring the car.
Then Vee looked at her. "Did you call Marco already?"
"No…"
Vee's eyes narrowed. "Why not?"
"Well, Marco isn't here. He is all the way in Italy." Val tried for reason, though it came out thin. "What can he do?"
Vee did not bother answering. She simply dialled Marco's number. Val stood there, feeling suddenly small.
