"Come on. Have a drink with me." Massimo said.
"I have to—"
"Your wife is with Carol," Massimo said, cutting him off, "getting ready to pick up her sister from the airport."
Luca's head snapped back. "Should she even be going out?"
"She needs the air. You of all people know if you try to lock her in this house like a fragile little saint, she will make your life unbearable."
That, unfortunately, sounded like Veronica.
Massimo poured two drinks and handed one to Luca. "Come on."
Luca accepted the glass.
"Your mother thinks your problem is because you are afraid."
"Shouldn't I be?" Luca asked, his voice sharper than he intended. "Considering everything that has happened."
"You should be afraid," Massimo said. "Any man with something precious to lose should be afraid. But that is not the whole of it. I think your fear has nowhere to go. Your anger too."
Luca gave a cold little laugh. "My anger has many places to go. One of them is currently chained underground."
