The Emperor looked at Empress Delphine. The Empress looked back at her husband with the expression of a woman watching a man encounter a concept his civilization had no framework for and finding the encountering entertaining.
"Among wolves," Delphine said smoothly, her voice carrying the velvet calm of a woman who had married a half-Fae emperor and had spent years translating between cultures, "matebonds can be severed. It is painful, dangerous, and socially catastrophic, but it is possible. Their goddess apparently permits it under certain conditions."
"Their goddess permits the severing of a sacred soul tie," the Emperor repeated.
"Their goddess permits many things ours does not," Delphine replied. "They also eat their meals with metal prongs and consider it civilized."
"I use forks, yes," Guinevere confirmed. "And I severed a soul tie. Both were choices I stand by."
