Chapter 52 - The Heat of a Fallen Sun

A stunned silence fell over the hallway. Every officer and medical professional stood entirely still, jaws slack, pupils shaking in disbelief.

Then, absolute chaos erupted.

Doctors and medical experts pushed frantically past the blockade of armored officers, rushing into the isolation room to witness the impossible miracle.

Even the Super Cops were momentarily stunned, their strict, heavily-conditioned discipline breaking as they peered through the glass to see the flatlined girl breathing normally.

Kai remained completely still.

A hollow sigh escaped his pale lips as he leaned his head back, staring blankly at the sterile hospital ceiling.

' The Elixir was gone. Lilia was doomed. He felt entirely, utterly empty.'

As his dark gaze slowly leveled, he scanned the chaotic hallway.

'Wait... where is Arjun?'

His eyes darted through the crowd of heavily armored officers and frantic nurses, but his friend was nowhere to be seen.

He had vanished into thin air. Kai's brow furrowed. 'Did Arjun call the cops on me? He couldn't know...'

SMASH.

A heavy, System-enforced baton slammed violently into the back of Kai's knees.

"What did I say, Zero?!" the furious lead officer barked, taking his terror and confusion out on the boy.

SMACK.

The cop swung the dense kinetic stick again, striking Kai brutally across the back. "Move faster!"

Kai didn't stumble. The physical pain radiating through his bones was absolutely negligible compared to the soul-crushing loss he had just experienced.

He remained perfectly still, his voice dead and hollow. "I will not."

Enraged by the absolute defiance of a Level Zero, the surrounding cops swarmed him.

They began to strike him, violently shoving and beating him with their batons.

No one in the hospital cared. The doctors and nurses completely ignored the brutal assault happening right outside the door.

In a world ruled by the System, authorities beating a Level Zero was simply the normal, invisible baseline of reality.

"Let go!" one cop snarled, drawing a crackling electric stun baton. He slammed the sparking rod directly into Kai's back.

Instead of collapsing in agony, Kai turned, his dark eyes locking onto the officer. He reached out and tightly gripped the cop's wrist.

The officer gasped as a terrifying, unnatural cold instantly sapped the heat from his arm.

The electric rod clattered uselessly to the floor. Kai stared right through him, his mind completely detached.

Another cop swung his baton in a wide, desperate arc, smashing it directly into the side of Kai's head.

Kai didn't even flinch. Nothing mattered more than the steady rhythm of Nyra's heart pulsing normally on the monitor.

He just stared through the bleeding cut on his temple, his Glitch eyes unblinking.

"Everyone, move."

A smooth, terrifyingly cold voice echoed down the corridor.

'Another monster', his gaze turning toward the approaching anomaly.

Instantly, the cops froze. They stepped rapidly away from Kai, their heads tilting down in absolute, rigid submission, as if making eye contact with the newcomer meant looking directly at death itself.

A heavy, suffocating golden aura began to violently bleed into the hallway.

The officers instinctively started to sweat. The air pressure distorted around the man, bending the hospital lights.

He stepped through the parted crowd. He looked like a high-ranking detective, dressed in a sharp, immaculate suit. A single, gleaming sun earring dangled from his left ear.

The man smiled warmly, stepping effortlessly into Kai's personal space and extending a hand.

"Hi. I'm Vrisha. The new Head of the Department."

Kai stared seriously at Vrisha, his dark eyes analyzing the system threat, but he did not raise his hand to accept the greeting.

Vrisha let out a soft, amused chuckle and slowly pulled his pristine hand back.

"Okay. I can understand what you have gone through today, Kai."

Suddenly, the ambient temperature in the hallway skyrocketed.

Kai's breath caught painfully in his throat. It wasn't just hot; it felt as if he were suddenly standing next to the exposed core of a fallen sun.

The sheer, terrifying density of Vrisha's mana was actively trying to crush him into the floor tiles.

Vrisha slowly raised his hand and placed it heavily on Kai's bruised shoulder. His lips curved into a cunning, knowing smile.

"Are you waiting for the girl in the next room to wake up?" Vrisha leaned in, slowly moving near Kai's ear, his golden voice dripping with false empathy.

"Because the longer you stay here... the longer danger stays with her."

It was a blatant, calculated threat.

Kai coldly pushed away the hand resting on his shoulder.

For a microsecond, Vrisha stood entirely still. His mouth parted slightly, his eyes widening as he stared at Kai.

'It didn't work', Vrisha realized. The golden aura had not crushed the boy.

He started tapping his fingers rapidly against his thigh, as if he had miscalculated a fundamental line of code.

Kai's fist tightened at his side until his knuckles turned white. His lips felt bone-dry from the oppressive heat radiating off the man. Kai calculated every possibility.

'How can I escape?' His mind raced, feeling the cold pull of the Glitch class threatening to take over completely.

His gaze falls towards Vrisha , his lips curved reaching his eyes as if looking down on Kai "think , just don't let the Override state consume you."

Kai narrowed his eyes, forcibly relaxing his mind and taking a deep, shuddering breath.

He glanced one last time through the glass window, looking at Nyra's peacefully sleeping face.

His cold gaze turned back to Vrisha.

"Let's go," Kai said flatly.

Vrisha's smile widened brightly, the oppressive, crushing heat instantly vanishing from the air.

"What a good decision."

The heavy doors slammed shut.

The officers quickly surrounded Kai, ushering him out of the hospital and throwing him into the reinforced back of a heavily armored System jeep, moving him toward the station.

As the chaos of the city continued above, far away in an abandoned, broken mining facility, a different nightmare unfolded.

Dark, cylindrical glass containers lined the cavernous hallway, filled to the brim with glowing, viscous blue liquid.

Suspended inside every single container were the women who had gone missing from the hospital wards.

A mechanical clicking sound began to echo off the damp stone walls.

A bio-mechanical entity patrolled the aisle. Its head resembled a mechanized wolf, wired with twitching antennae.

In its core, a crimson crystal pumped glowing fluid up to its brain. Instead of legs, it hovered on a sleek, pill-shaped anti-gravity chassis, deploying four serpentine metallic tendrils to constantly monitor the biometrics of the women suspended inside the glass.

As the machine scanned the room, a man stood before one specific container, gently caressing the cold glass.

He wore cracked sunglasses. His visible eye contained a dying, trapped star.

He slowly leaned his head against the container, staring at the woman floating peacefully inside.

"My dear Lilia," the stranger whispered into the dark. "Soon... you will be my wife."
