Julian had been in a lot of rooms with Arianne Summers over the years, and exactly none of them had started with her setting a folder on his kitchen table and asking if he had ten minutes he wasn't already spending on Kyle. Ellie took the hint, scooped Kyle up under one arm mid-protest, and disappeared toward the bedroom with a look over her shoulder that said she'd want the full report later.
"You could have called first," Julian said, though he was already pulling out a chair.
"I did call first. Four times." Arianne sat down across from him and didn't open the folder yet. "You don't check your phone on your days off. It's a terrible habit for a man who apparently runs half a company."
"I don't run anything. I have opinions about a company. There's a difference."
"Not according to the last four years of board minutes." She slid the folder an inch closer to him, still closed. "Which is what I'm here about."
