The second waking came easier than the first, which was the only reason Franz trusted it enough to ask for anything at all. Someone had raised the head of the bed sometime while he slept, high enough that he no longer had to hold his own neck up to take in the room, and the twins had reclaimed their spots on either side of him like they'd never left, Leo narrating something about a science project with a level of detail that told Franz he'd been rescued from having to talk much himself.
"Where's your grandfather?" Franz asked, when Leo finally paused for breath.
"Getting Grandma coffee. She wouldn't stop crying long enough to make it herself." Lily reported it the way she reported everything lately, careful and exact, like getting the facts right was the one thing she could control. "I want to show you my project too, but Leo says you're supposed to rest."
