Chapter 24: The Contract
The legal documents arrived on Monday morning, exactly as Kai had promised. They came in a pristine manila envelope with the Apex Legends Gaming logo embossed in silver. April found them waiting on the kitchen table when she got home from her morning shift at the convenience store, her mother having accepted them from a courier without question.
She stared at the envelope for a long time before opening it.
Inside were forty-seven pages of contracts, addendums, clauses, and legal language that made her head spin. She spread them across her small desk in her bedroom and began reading, her highlighter moving steadily through sections on compensation, streaming rights, non-compete agreements, and termination conditions. Every clause was meticulously written, every loophole seemingly closed, every potential conflict of interest addressed with the precision of lawyers who charged more per hour than April made in a month.
