Lugia opened its massive maw once more, unleashing another devastating Aeroblast.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The localized shockwave of Lugia's attack collided with the elemental barrage of the Three Legendary Birds, triggering a catastrophic secondary explosion. The sheer kinetic force of the blast ripped through the air, scattering the birds' formation like dry leaves in a storm.
Red, Blue, and Green were caught in the radius; their silhouettes vanished behind a wall of thick, oily smoke. When the haze finally thinned, Feng Che saw the legendary trio and the Three Birds lying unconscious on the scorched, blackened earth.
"Lugia's single strike was enough to overwhelm all three birds at once," Feng Che noted grimly. "But their sacrifice wasn't in vain. They've drained Lugia's stamina and, more importantly, shattered its wind barrier. Now, the Three Beasts can land a clean hit."
"Go! Entei, Raikou, Suicune! Attack now!"
Raikou roared, its body crackling with thousands of golden volts. The electricity coalesced into the shape of a gargantuan thunder-tiger that lunged through the air. It clamped its fangs onto Lugia's left wing, discharging a massive surge of current that turned the sea god's silver hide a bruised charcoal.
Lugia shrieked in agony, lashing out with an instinctive Aeroblast at Raikou. Razor-sharp air blades, invisible and lethal, tore toward the thunder cat. Just as the wind was about to shred Raikou's frame, a thick mist rose from the forest floor. Suicune manifested in front of its comrade, erecting a shimmering Crystal Wall.
The Aeroblast detonated against the barrier, cratering the ground but failing to pierce Suicune's absolute defense.
Seizing the opening, Entei gathered the essence of the Sacred Fire. It exhaled a pillar of white-hot divinity, engulfing Lugia and transforming the silver dragon into a screaming white firebird. Lugia thrashed, trying to use its wings to create a vacuum and douse the flames, but Shaymin was already in position.
Shaymin's eyes glowed with an intense emerald light as it charged Seed Flare. A massive, sixty-meter-long beam of life energy slammed into Lugia's chest with the force of a collapsing star.
The flash was so blinding that Feng Che had to shield his eyes. Lugia's screams reached a fever pitch before suddenly cutting into a heavy silence.
When the light faded, Lugia lay motionless on the charred ground, its silver feathers burnt to a dull grey, its chest heaving with weak, shallow breaths.
"Shaymin, use the power of the Gracidea Leaf (Leaf Jewel). Heal the sea god," Feng Che commanded.
Shaymin stood over the fallen giant and began to sing an ancient, melodic prayer for restoration. As the song echoed through the Ilex Forest, a gentle spring breeze followed in its wake.
Where there was once only ash and burnt soil, fresh green sprouts began to erupt from the earth. The forest was literally coming back to life. Life energy flooded into Lugia; the charred scales fell away, replaced by pristine silver feathers. Lugia's eyes, once a manic crimson, flickered and opened—clear, calm, and intelligent once more.
The End of a Tragedy
"It's over... it's finally over," Red sighed, rubbing his head as he and his friends recovered within Shaymin's Grassy Terrain.
Nearby, the shrine began to pulse with green light. Gold tumbled out of a temporal ripple, landing in a heap on the grass. Moments later, Celebi emerged, circled the newly restored forest with a chirp of approval, and vanished back into the fabric of time.
"Gold! What happened in there?" Silver asked, pulling him up.
"Pryce used the GS Ball to trap me in the void," Gold said, his usual cocky grin slightly subdued. "But the ball cracked—I think the wings within it resisted him. Celebi broke free and guided me out. As for Pryce... he's still in the gap between times."
Feng Che knew the truth. Pryce hadn't simply vanished; he had found a way back, but the realization that he could never truly touch his lost Lapras had broken his spirit. The Masked Man was gone, replaced by a weary old man who had chosen to live out his days in isolation.
"Pryce's departure doesn't mean the chaos is finished," Feng Che reminded them. "We still have a mess to clean up at the Kanto League."
A New Path
On the edge of the clearing, Will and Karen watched the peaceful scene, their weapons—the masks and the stolen wings—gone. Their purpose had evaporated.
"All this time, our only goal was to help him rule," Will whispered to Karen. "Now that he's gone, I... I don't know what we're supposed to do."
"Will, Karen. You are free," a voice spoke from behind them. Koga and Bruno stepped into the light.
"You shouldn't live in the shadow of his obsession anymore," Bruno said. "You have the strength. Use it to atone. Help us protect the Johto region. Help us protect our home."
"Free?" Karen whispered. "Can someone like me, whose hands are stained with so much, truly protect something this beautiful?" She looked at the vibrant, reborn forest.
"You can," Koga said with a firm nod. "Respect for life is the beginning of a new path. Look at this forest—even after being reduced to ash, it chose to grow again. You can do the same."
The two Johto elites shared a long look before nodding solemnly. They would join the new Johto Elite Four, no longer as villains, but as guardians.
The Final Siege
Meanwhile, at the Tin Tower, the situation was dire. The protective barrier of the Rainbow Wing had finally flickered and died.
"The barrier is down!" High Priest Shaka shouted, his eyes wide with a fanatic's glee as he looked at the now-unprotected pagoda. "All units, move in! Erase the Tin Tower from history!"
Thousands of corrupted Pokémon surged forward, ready to tear down the last bastion of Ho-Oh's influence.
