Asgard had always regarded Earth as part of its own back garden.
Even after signing a formal agreement with the self-respecting mage known as the Ancient One, Asgard did not permit other cosmic forces to interfere in Midgard's affairs.
Especially not now, when Asgard had once swept across the universe in conquest.
As for the so-called Kree, those brutes who, in Thor's opinion, looked like they hunted with sticks shoved firmly up their backs…
Even if they had grown into a massive interstellar empire, they were nothing more than ants before Asgard's might.
If necessary, the Bifrost alone could reduce such an empire to stardust.
"This is unforgivable!" Thor roared.
"A band of Kree dares commit such atrocities right under the noses of Asgardians?!"
Without hesitation, Thor summoned Mjölnir, his beloved Meow Meow Hammer.
With Garfield and the Ancient One standing nearby, Thor grasped Loki by the shoulder and called down the Bifrost.
Golden light descended.
In the next instant, the brothers were gone, returned to Asgard, where Thor intended to report everything directly to his father, Odin.
When the violent energy of the Rainbow Bridge dissipated, silence finally returned to the house.
Queenie, still just a witch stood frozen in place, her heart hammering wildly. It took her a long moment to realize she was still breathing.
"Ahhhhhh!" She suddenly lunged forward and hugged Garfield tightly.
"So amazing! So incredible! I met real gods!"
"Queenie," Garfield said weakly, his face pressed into her shoulder,
"Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but if you continue like this, I will be crushed to death."
"Oh!" Queenie quickly released him, flustered. "I'm sorry! I got too excited…"
She stared at him with shining eyes. "Those were really Thor and Loki? The gods from Norse mythology?"
"That's right. Odin's sons." Garfield nodded calmly.
" Thor, the wielder of Mjölnir. And his younger brother Loki, the God of Mischief."
Queenie scratched her head, confused. "Wait… isn't Loki supposed to be Odin's brother in the legends?"
"Myths have been passed down for thousands of years," Garfield replied.
"Details tend to get… distorted."
Then he added casually, "By the way, after dinner, come with me. Let's check on how Steve and his good friend are doing."
Queenie nodded without hesitation.
"Okay."
…
Garfield glanced at the table, now cluttered with empty plates and cups.
He extended his claws slightly.
"Clean."
A soft flash of magic rippled through the room. In an instant, every stain vanished. The tableware gleamed as if freshly crafted.
The Ancient One, sipping tea nearby, raised an eyebrow in approval.
"This spell is very practical." She said. "It would save the mages of Kamar-Taj from endless dishwashing."
She set her teacup down and continued,
"Garfield, when you have time, go to the opposite corner of wizard world and retrieve a batch of wands for me."
"No problem, Master," Garfield replied.
"I'll take Queenie out for a walk anyway. Help with digestion."
The Ancient One smiled knowingly. "Go on. I'll return to Kamar-Taj after finishing this tea."
She paused, then added thoughtfully, "This tea is quite excellent. When you leave, bring me some more."
Ancient One liked tea.
Queenie nodded and explained,
"It was a gift from an official of a large eastern nation. They hope to build a good relationship with us, something about purchasing weapons."
"Oh." Garfield pretended not to hear that part.
He waved a paw. "Don't worry about who sent it. Just pack some up for Master."
Then he turned and added. "Oh, Midnight, Shōkyū, Izuna. Come along with us for a bit."
Midnight and Shōkyū perked up immediately, leaping down from the table.
Shōkyū climbed onto Garfield's back like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"Mount," She declared proudly. "Forward!"
Midnight hopped up and asked eagerly, "Can I be called Black Panther? Or maybe Goddess?"
"No." Garfield shook his head.
"You're entirely black, and not very big." He continued seriously.
"So your name is Midnight. If you ever find a black cat smaller than yourself, you may be promoted to Big Black."
Midnight froze, thinking deeply.
"…Okay." She said at last. "I'll go find my good sister later."
Garfield flicked his tail.
