"If one hundred a month won't work, ten a month is fine! If that's too much, even one a month works, Lord Danzo!!"
Arin was still trying to fight for more missions.
That way Root's KPI could be met smoothly, and he could earn plenty of experience as well.
What a perfect win–win solution.
Arin hadn't even left yet.
Instead, Danzo walked away faster.
Root hadn't killed even ten Konoha ninja in an entire year.
Now that Arin had taken command, it looked like he intended to wipe out the entire village.
Compared to Arin, Danzo suddenly felt…
He was actually a pretty kind-hearted person.
If anyone ever accused him of being dark and ruthless again, he would just bring Arin out and let them see what true darkness looked like.
At the very least, a person should not—cannot—be like this.
"Tch. If you don't want to do it, then don't. Why run away?" Arin muttered.
Since Danzo had driven him off in such an uncivilized manner, it meant the mission was finished.
As for payment—
He would just take it from the squad's funds himself.
After all, he still had other work to do.
Arin was a busy man now.
On one hand, he had to respond to Danzo's summons.
On the other, he had to check on the training progress of his Second Squad — the Hyakki Squad.
And as if that wasn't enough, Hiruzen Sarutobi also refused to let him go.
He didn't even have time to sit at home and farm furniture experience anymore.
Even if it was only a few dozen points—
After the war ended there were hardly any places left to grind experience.
Even a few dozen points was still meat.
"When a person gets famous, trouble follows. When a pig gets fat, it gets slaughtered."
Arin changed his clothes after returning home and jogged toward the Hokage Office.
Inside the Hokage Office—
The fully recovered Three Sannin were present.
So was the legendary White Fang, Hatake Sakumo.
"Yo, kid. You're here," Jiraiya greeted him with a wave.
Tsunade snorted coldly the moment she saw him.
"I just finished my work over there and rushed here," Arin said, wiping imaginary sweat from his forehead.
He walked over and stood beside Orochimaru.
After all—
He was still Orochimaru's nominal disciple.
Even though he wasn't sure whether this teacher could actually beat him.
And Orochimaru hadn't really taught him anything either.
This won't do.
Tonight I'll go raid Orochimaru's house.
What kind of teacher teaches nothing?
Arin glanced at Orochimaru with a slightly malicious look.
Orochimaru suddenly shivered.
He felt like someone had set their sights on him.
Turning his head, he looked at Arin.
Target confirmed.
What sin had he committed to end up with such a terrifying disciple?
And it wasn't even his fault—
Hiruzen Sarutobi had forced him to take Arin as a student.
Orochimaru shot Sarutobi a resentful look.
Sarutobi suddenly shivered violently.
At that moment, the door opened and Danzo walked in.
"Hiruzen—"
He stopped mid-sentence when he saw Arin standing beside Orochimaru.
After a long pause, he finally muttered:
"You're pretty busy, aren't you?"
Just moments ago, Arin had been performing missions for him.
Now he was already here working for Hiruzen.
"Lord Danzo," Arin said with a tired expression.
"What can I do? I've got a family to support."
Danzo's mouth twitched.
"Enough, Danzo," Sarutobi said while adjusting his Hokage hat.
"This time we'll be receiving the delegations from the four villages together."
Everyone present here was a hero of the war.
They were also meant to intimidate the other villages.
With them present, it showed that Konoha's older generation, middle generation, and younger generation all had powerful pillars supporting them.
Konoha wasn't something the other villages could covet lightly.
The only strange thing was—
Arin's strength seemed a little too ridiculous.
He clearly belonged to the younger generation, yet he was already standing alongside the veterans.
Sarutobi sighed.
Although wars were mainly fought by the countless ordinary ninja—
Victory had been inseparable from these few individuals.
Arin, however, wasn't interested in that.
He was observing Hatake Sakumo.
Among everyone present, Sakumo was the only one he didn't know personally.
He had heard the name many times, but this was his first time seeing him.
Sakumo wore a normal blue bodysuit and green flak jacket.
A Hokage armband wrapped around one sleeve.
A short sword rested across his back.
Although he appeared about the same age as the Sannin, Sakumo was actually younger than them, just not by much.
Despite being the man who had slaughtered his way through Sunagakure's forces, he carried no killing intent.
Instead—
He gave off a strangely gentle aura.
Just by looking at him, it was impossible to imagine how many people he had killed.
While Arin observed Sakumo—
Sakumo was also observing Arin.
The boy looked about fourteen or fifteen.
Like a rookie who had only entered the ninja world a couple of years ago.
He wore the traditional robes of the Hyuga clan.
His pale Byakugan gave the illusion of innocence.
But Sakumo could smell a thick scent of blood from him.
Hidden within him was an enormous killing intent.
This boy had probably killed almost as many people as he had.
What drew Sakumo's attention the most was Arin's forehead.
Unlike other Hyuga branch members who covered their foreheads with headbands—
Arin deliberately exposed the Caged Bird Seal.
Instead, his forehead protector was tied around his neck.
This boy was dangerous.
Even more dangerous than the Three Sannin beside him.
And he clearly enjoyed killing.
Sakumo silently decided—
It would be best to stay far away from him.
Under Sarutobi's command, the group set off toward the conference room where the delegations were waiting.
…
Before they even entered—
They heard shouting inside.
"You Mist ninja must have been bored out of your minds to invade the Land of Earth!"
"And we should be asking you why your troops showed up in the Land of Water!"
Between the Land of Earth and the Land of Water lay numerous smaller nations and the Land of Fire.
To the sides were the Lands of Lightning and Wind.
Beyond that were nothing but mountains and seas.
Going anywhere else would have been easier than invading each other.
Yet during the war—
These two villages had fought fiercely.
Only their battles with Konoha were more intense.
"And what about you Cloud ninja?!" the Sand ninja roared.
"Why are you everywhere?!"
"You showed up in the Land of Earth, the Land of Fire, the Land of Rain—"
"You even invaded the Land of Wind!"
The Cloud ninja slammed the table and stood up.
"Listen to yourself!"
"You Sand ninja were wandering everywhere too!"
"We lost plenty of people because of you!"
"You think we don't know it was your doing?!"
"You two are like stirring sticks in a cesspool!" the Stone and Mist ninja shouted together.
"Why couldn't you just focus on fighting Konoha?!"
"Why did you have to fight us too?!"
Even though Konoha had fought intensely against the other villages—
The other villages had also been fighting each other.
Otherwise Konoha wouldn't have been able to hold out.
Outside the door, the Konoha group exchanged awkward looks.
The hatred between these villages seemed even greater than their hatred toward Konoha.
If they didn't go in soon—
An actual fight might break out.
Beside them, Arin's body was already flickering with black-blue flames.
He said excitedly,
"I'll go in and break up the fight."
"THE HELL YOU WILL!!"
Danzo roared at him.
Seriously—
Danzo wasn't even someone who liked swearing.
Yet Arin had pushed him to the point of constant profanity.
Sarutobi sighed and muttered:
"You'd better actually be going in to stop the fight…"
"And not to wipe out everyone inside."
