Gideon flinched when Delilah pinched his cheeks hard enough to sting. He caught her wrists and gently pulled her hands away before rubbing at his sore face with a small grimace.
"You're always talking about how dangerous pregnancy is in this world," he said, watching her carefully.
"The way you describe it, it sounds as if it is one of the biggest sins people would ever commit . So no, I don't think it was unreasonable for me to assume you might want to get rid of the baby."
"That part isn't unreasonable," Delilah admitted, her voice faltering as she rubbed the bridge of her nose. "But how did you jump from that to thinking I would abort our child?"
Her hand drifted to her stomach almost unconsciously. "I wouldn't. It's not as if this baby came from something I regret, or because I hate you so much that I don't want to carry your child."
She stopped and let out a frustrated sigh, clearly realizing how awkwardly her words had come out.
