Chapter 123 - chapter 121

Jennifer Walters vs. Reality

The moment Tony said those words—

The legal world exploded.

Phones rang nonstop.

Emails flooded in by the thousands.

Stockholders panicked. Governments questioned. Defense contracts trembled.

Jennifer Walters stood in her office, jacket off, sleeves rolled up.

"…Alright," she said calmly.

"Let's do this."

She moved fast.

Press statements rewritten.

Legal loopholes identified.

Damage containment initiated.

By the end of the day—

The narrative had shifted.

Tony Stark wasn't reckless.

He was transparent.

The legal storm didn't vanish—

But it stopped being lethal.

Jennifer allowed herself one small smile.

Then immediately went back to work.

The Other Cleanup Crew

Elsewhere—

Veronica and Pepper were doing their own kind of damage control.

Board members.

Investors.

Military representatives.

Pepper handled logistics.

Veronica handled authority.

Together, they stabilized Stark Industries just enough to breathe.

"…We deserve raises," Pepper muttered.

Veronica nodded tiredly. "Several."

Tony's Mansion — A Familiar Argument

Night fell.

Alex and Tony sat in the mansion living room.

Alex was not impressed.

"You have any idea how many problems this causes?" Alex said calmly—dangerously calm.

Tony shrugged. "Stocks went up."

Alex stared.

"…You are impossible."

Tony smirked. "You love me."

Alex sighed. "Unfortunately."

Then Alex paused.

"…Is the power out?"

The lights snapped on.

And a man was sitting on the couch.

The Man in the Shadows

Alex raised an eyebrow.

"And you are?"

The man didn't move.

"Nicholas Joseph Fury," he said evenly.

"Director of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division."

Alex tilted his head.

"…That's unnecessarily long."

Fury nodded. "We're working on it."

Alex accepted that.

Then—

He noticed it.

A badge.

In Fury's pocket.

Dark obsidian.

Phoenix sigil.

Angular wings like a crown.

Contained flame—controlled, eternal.

Alex said nothing.

Fury noticed the glance.

Said nothing.

The badge stayed where it was.

Canon Continues

Fury turned to Tony.

Same conversation.

Same offer.

Same refusal.

"I don't want to join your superhero boy band," Tony said flatly.

Fury sighed.

Then—

He looked at Alex.

"And you," Fury said slowly.

"SHIELD's tried to find out who you are."

Alex met his gaze calmly.

"Every time we get close," Fury continued, "someone higher tells us to stop. Presidents. NATO. People who don't usually agree."

Alex smiled faintly.

"You'll find out," he said.

"In a few months."

Fury studied him for a long moment.

Then nodded.

"…Fair enough."

He stood.

And left.

Aftermath

Silence returned to the room.

Tony exhaled. "So… that was weird."

Alex leaned back.

"That was inevitable."

Somewhere—

The universe watched Earth a little more closely.

Because now—

SHIELD had noticed.

And the Phoenix Monarch's shadow was officially on the board
