Cherreads

Chapter 16 - 16

Oh my gosh! My gosh! My gosh!

I kept chanting in my head as I rushed to my closet to get ready.

I slept through my alarm, only waking up scattering my things around to finish up.

I planned on skipping class today but the text message I got from Samantha washed the sleep away.

*Girl, where are you?!

We have a compulsory class now, with project slides that need to be submitted.

Wipe that sleep away right now and make your presence known.*

Why would a professor suddenly give out slides by 3am and expect everyone to have finished the stupid project the same morning and still wants to give a compulsory lecture.

I mistakenly smudged my lipgloss across my lips because I was in a hurry.

'shit!'

This wasn't how I planned my university life.

Making a once over at the mirror one more time, I rushed out extremely late for class.

***

I didn't know what pushed me to just barge inside the hall.

I was almost running all the way here, not having enough momentum to stop myself landing me in front of the whole class.

To say I was embarrassed was a whole understatement.

I could feel all the stares landing on me.

The professor wasn't pleased either with the distraction I'd caused either.

I don't think I had ever seen him before.

He had raven blue hair with thin stripes of grey scattered around, acknowledging his advanced age.

Looked in his early fifties, with sharp pointed eyebrows and slight wrinkles on his fore head and his mouth area, giving him a permanent scowl.

"And what's your name? Late comer." His stare on me getting sharper with his brows arched sharply as if trying to hold his distaste.

"Freya…Freya Drevan." I answered boldly but inside I was already planning on ways to just dig a hole on the ground.

His grey eyes flashed with an emotion but quickly flickered out.

He waved his hand singling me to go and take a seat.

I walked towards the seat section and almost every seat was already occupied.

The side glances and full ok stares kept getting made it feel like a walk of shame.

But I did come late.

So yeah.

'psst!'

I turned my head to the direction of the call.

Samantha was seated with an empty seat beside her.

I quickly made my way to her and sat down.

"Who is the new professor, I haven't seen him before."I whispered to her, as I fully made myself comfortable.

She didn't even have time to reply before the professor started.

"So everyone, for the benefit of those who came late.." He paused, giving a clear stare around the whole. "You all might be wondering who I am and how I just popped out of nowhere."

Clearing his throat he continued.

"I'm professor Sylvans. And I'm here to substitute professor Andressa because she's gone on maternity leave. I'll start from where she stopped."

He went on the board and wrote his name making sure not to ruin what he'd earlier written there.

Professor Sylvans.

And with that, he went back to teaching.

I felt a slight nudge on my knee.

Samantha had an eyebrow raised and mouthed.

'Why'd I come late?'

I shrugged.

She started mouthing some words again but this time I couldn't understand what she was saying.

"Girl I can't hear you." I half whispered, half talked.

Next thing I know, the professor's eyes were fixed on me.

He looked like he wanted to throw me out the window any second now.

I bowed slightly and mouthed sorry to him.

With one last glare at me, he continued on the board.

I couldn't cause another scene again.

My phone vibrated on my lap, I opened it and saw Samantha's text.

*I asked what were you doing that caused you this lateness.

I just woke up late.

I never initially wanted to come for class.

*You wanted to leave me here by myself today? Mhmm ( ͡°ᴥ ͡° ʋ)

I just snickered and gave her a light nudge.

"Miss Samantha! Keep quiet or both you and your friend will be kicked out!" Professor Sylvan yelled.

The whole class was staring at us now and some glaring.

"Sorry sir." She apologized.

The class went quiet again and he continued with his teaching.

This man is definitely strict.

But something else grabbed my attention.

How did he hear us?

The hall we were having the class is quite large and one of the biggest buildings of the school.

And we didn't even utter any word, so how?

I wanted to ask Samantha but I feared the risk of getting kicked out.

***

The lesson didn't seem as exhausting as I thought it would be.

In no time, it was free time.

Samantha had suggested showing me around this time again but I refused.

I opted for my bed only.

"Don't be such a lazy bear. You just woke up." She teased making sure she bumped my shoulder a little.

"Yeah sure." I rolled my eyes playfully as we made our way towards the field.

"Where are we going?" I glanced around as she kept on leading us more into the field which was getting far from the main school building.

"It's a surprise." She glanced back at me with a mischievous smirk.

Here we go again.

It gave me a deja vu of the hidden garden shed shown me then.

I bumped into her as he suddenly made a sharp stop.

I wanted to ask why she'd stopped but the sound of a stick crack stopped me.

The air around us shifted as tension and fear rose.

I felt goosebumps rising on my skin and my palms were already sweaty.

"Did you hear that?" I whispered.

Samantha seemed more alert than ever before, eyeing every corner around the trees.

"We need to leave now."

Her voice carried a sharp edge to it and I didn't need to question anything as we made our way back.

At first it was just a simple jog back and next thing I know, we were full on running for our lives.

From what?

I don't know.

But I could feel there was something there.

I screamed with terror as full force came crushing onto us crashing me against a tree and Samantha on the floor.

A gush of pain rushed through my whole body at the impact of the hit and slammed onto the ground.

I painfully opened my eyes and the sight before me made my blood curl.

A huge black wolf with sapphire eyes stood right in front.

Samantha was knocked unconscious.

It was only me left.

I was already at the edge of passing out when the wolf geared its sharp canines at me.

But the shocking thing was that it didn't attack.

Just watched.

Slowly my vision started to blur and everywhere dizzy.

The last thing I heard was shouts and heavy footsteps coming from a distance.
