It was old rock that had been in this area long before it was used in any building, the particular weight and texture of the material which had been part of the dimensional medium long before the Egyptian tradition began to build around it. The stone had the ambient temperature of something that had never been warm; it was not cold because there was no heat, but cold because it existed at a depth where warmth wasn't a factor.
He stood there and read the space.
